Re: sevenoaks hi fi

I've always found the Holborn branch well stingy...an example Sevenoaks Leeds had some ex dem B&W XT4s for £1,000, Holborn - yours for £1495 (& I can buy them cheaper than that NEW from one other London dealer). Another recent example - AVR300 Brighton Sevenoaks clearing them out *new* for £695....Holborn - ex dem yours for £850 etc!

i dont know exactly where the holborn branch is situated, but dont forget these are franchise shops, and the holborn branch would quite likely have a far high running cost to consider given its proximity to central london than Leeds or Brighton.....

Swiss Cottage tend not to give too much of a discount on their ex-demo items in the listings, they are in a very expensive prime location, however they are very generous to more regular customers....so it pays to buy from the same shop if it stocks the gear you look for, you might not get much of bargain on one thing, but later on you might make a killing on something....

Re: sevenoaks hi fi

You have just echoed what I was going to say. Unfortunately living in London is expensive and I guess that's why i get paid a London living allowence? I am not surprised that you could find things cheaper in other areas or even shops in the same area. I guess that’s where shopping around comes into it. The speakers I wanted were reasonably priced even compared to the internet and with the 25% discount I think I got a bargain.

I suppose I am defending them a bit as they gave me a fantastic service and even let me change my sub a couple of days before I collected it all even though it had all be delivered to their store. I would use them again without a second thought but if I did find it cheaper elsewhere I would go elsewhere!

I went to audio T in Brentwood to ask about stand, when I told the bloke my budget was around £300 he replied "won't get much for that" and fobbed me off to his sales assistant. when i went to sevenoaks I told them my budget was around £1300 I got a 5* treatment and I was there for a good 2 hours listening to different set-ups!

Anyway rant over and its always good to hear other peoples views!
