Nokia 6230 - any better deals?

Just wondered if anyone has seen any better deals than this for the Nokia 6230?
Comet are doing half-price line rental for the whole 12 months of the contract, making a total of £16.50 (inc itemised bills)...
HERE
cheers

Neelpeel, How do you get £16.50?

I thought that the current £4.99 per month (after cashback) deal at E2Save for 6230 on Orange 200 anytime was the best at the moment. Especially if you use a referral to knock an extra £20 (?) off.

That link just seemed to go to the standard website.
I think there's a £30 cashback for Orange that goes to the recommender.

Anybody already got a phone through e2save that wants to go halfs on the £30 send me a pm!

6230

Just bought 2 off 6230 from carphone warehouse online. Deal is basically the same as e2save but with the convenience of high street shop support:

phones: free

The first 3 months line rental is charged at £15 and will be credited to your bill by the Orange. Next 9 months at £30.

Upon connection, you will recieve a cheque back automatically from us to the value of £75 which will be sent within 28 days.
The £4.99 line rental offer is by redemption. 3 cheques to the value of £60 will be send out when you send in your 4th, 8th and 12th month airtime bills.

Works out at £315 for line rental, £255 cheques back, £60 overall spend for a year... Fantastic

Thanks for the tips.
I picked up one of these from the carphone warehouse site!

Just have to remember and send for the cashback and I'm laughing.

Great phone by the way. Would definitely recommend.
Screen is pretty good. Bright and nice colours.
Sound is great. With headphones the mp3 playback is as good as a proper mp3 player and the built-in speaker is pretty loud and decent quality (given the size of the phone). I've now got a 512GB card on order. :-)
If you can find one of these deals then go buy one!

Glad you like it Neelpeel,

I too got one from CPW, or rather I made a mistake when ordering and got two. Wife wanted the 2nd one as soon as she knew about it.

Like you say, the sound is great. I found a site with details on how to convert the Nokia headset to add a standard stereo headset socket. The sound is now even better using decent headphones and my sony in-ear buds, although the wife had to do the soldering for me (I tried and it was too fiddly for me)!

Link to headset converter :

Nokia Heardphone Conversion

This keeps the microphone part of the headset so its great for chatting on the phone with earpieces which stay in my ears.

I now use the phone for MP3s and its great radio to carry around with me. 1Gb MMC cards soon to be ordered.

Cheers,
AJP

PS When used with the battery-powered TDK NXT flat-panel speakers for a fiver from the AVForums Bargains section a few weeks ago it makes an even better sound system for holidays, etc.

thanks for the info AJP, i think i'll try that headphone mod. If it works then i'll be able to use it in my car with my tape adaptor (yes I've still got a tape player in my car!).
where abouts are the speakers you mention?
also, any other good things you've found for the phone? e.g. good apps, games, etc
cheers

Neelpeel,

Here is the TDK Outloud speaker thread:

TDK Thread

Sadly they are now sold out, but I saw them on special at Aria last week for about £6.99, but postage isn't cheap at Aria for just one item.

If they ever come back in stock at £5.99, the some reviews I looked at before buying:

http://www.firebox.com/?dir=firebox&...roduct&pid=630

Guardian Review

They work well with the Nokia and save taking anything extra on holiday.

I still haven't had time to search out games, etc but do fancy Space Invaders if I can get it free somewhere. Meanwhile the wife is busy downloading (paid-for) mp3s of all the songs she likes but didn't want to buy whole CD albums at great cost. She downloads best quality mp3s and I use dBpowerAmp to reduce the bit rate to cram more into the phone memory.

AJP

PS If you want to reduce your monthly costs with CPW/Orange don't forget to dial 150 and cancel the monthly itemised billing and the Orange World trial which is only free for the 1st month and will cost you after that. Also check your 1st 3 bills to make sure you are getting the £15 discount applied.

A useful site is the Nokia 6230 forum at Expansys.

Thanks again for the help AJP.
I did the headphone mod and it works great! can now listen to my tunes in the car through the tape adapter and use my good headphones with it too.
Also, that Expansys forum is great. Must try and convert a couple of films and try out the video playback. Do you know if it plays full screen? When using the camera thingy it only seems to playback partial screen.

Cheers,
NP
