Re: Hauppauge HD PVR High-Definition Video Recorder

what are you looking to watch? If the freesat HD channels they are still broadcast over dvb-s (not dvb-S2) so can be picked up by a much cheaper card than this.

I use Vista64 with Pinnacle 7010i DVB-S / DVBViewer 3.9.4 and receive and record BBC HD fine. Its twin sat and freeview card (4 tuners) and cost me £30 / £10 respectvely (plus £7.5 for avccore h.264 codec) - if you can find one.

Component video. The HD PVR has no tuners. It just takes a high-def component input and converts it to a .TS file. I use mine (as I suspect most people do) for recording from my Sky+HD box.

So am I right in saying I could take a component feed from a HD camera and use this to record it and copy the files onto a DVD/BD disk for viewing?

This looks like the cheapest currently that I can find...

Just off to have a read up on them but this looks like the sort of thing I could use.

It does look like that, but you can do that on your computer using firewire with suitable editing suite.

I record HD from sony HD camcorder over firewire (aka ilink) with ulead videostudio 11.5 (£35), then burn to disc, so far a HD DVD formatted DVD9 - no blu ray writer yet, but that gves and hour of HD footage and is a lot cheaper than a blank BR disc! Needs a beefy PC.
