Sourcing granite for my speaker plinths or an alternative

I need to raise my front floor standing speakers about 6 inches off the ground, as the bass is currently firing into the arm of my chair.

I’m keen on the granite option, which would be fine if I just needed a speaker isolation platform, but I need to raise them also. I’ve visited a local stone mason and he didn’t even quote me a price for the block but I suspect it would be a couple of hundred per speaker judging by the prices of smaller blocks in there. I would need it to be about 12 x 12 x 6 inches, that’s a fair amount of rock.

Anybody work in the trade or have any ideas where I could source some from? I’m open to ideas for materials as it doesn’t need to be granite.

I did consider building some nice boxes and filling them with sand or concrete, but I don’t think it would be ideal, as there would always be a gap after I screw the lid on.

Any ideas welcome….

Re: Sourcing granite for my speaker plinths or an alternative

Granite at thats size is going to be expensive, I had made 400 x 500 x 40 mm plinths and they were £140.00 a few years ago. if you do decide to go ahead the darker granite
is more dense!

It might be a idea to buy a couple of granite chopping boards and gripfill them to your home made concrete blocks and timber edge the sides !

a cheap alternative would be concrete 6" block, but not wife friendly!

Thanks Kevin,

I've just gone to Wickes and got 4 medium density blocks and going to give them a go. They're pretty heavy. Obviously if they work ok, I'll look into covering them with felt or something a bit more pleasing to the eye!!
