Node o Build - How many plugs can I have on one adaptor?

Hi All

I am building a Node 0 into a recess in my office with venting up into the attic. I have fitted racking and have 12 items needing power, at present I have one double socket next to the recess and am wondering how to safely power everything.

Here is what I need to power,

1) HTPC - on 24/7
2) Sky Box - Feeds pc - on 24/7
3) PS3 - on occasionally
4) Xbox - on for a few hours a day as a MCE extender
5) Amp - on when watching HTPC
6) 12v Power Supply for IR distribution - on 24/7
7) Home Router - on 24/7
8) Home Switch - On 24/7
9) Work Router - on 24/7
10) Printer/Fax combo - on 24/7
11) Dock for work Laptop - on 8 hours daily 3 in 7 days
12) VOIP box - on 24/7

Can this be powered with extension leads or am I asking for my house to be burnt down doing this?

Re: Node o Build - How many plugs can I have on one adaptor?

Just add up the power consumptions... Some really bad estimates below

200W HTPC - on 24/7
35W Sky Box - Feeds pc - on 24/7
100W PS3 - on occasionally
100W Xbox - on for a few hours a day as a MCE extender
500W Amp - on when watching HTPC
5W 12v Power Supply for IR distribution - on 24/7
5W Home Router - on 24/7
5W Home Switch - On 24/7
5W Work Router - on 24/7
20W Printer/Fax combo - on 24/7
65W Dock for work Laptop - on 8 hours daily 3 in 7 days
5W VOIP box - on 24/7

= 1045W

A single 13A socket is good for 3120W

Thanks for that.

So looking ok, now need to find an extension lead with enough sockets as I do not really want to daisy chain a load together

How about this?
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0461618/Trail/searchtext>MASTERPLUG.htm

Has 8 sockets, you could then get a standard 4socket adapter for the low-risk items such as modem/router/switch.

Tis exactly what I do .

Re: Node o Build - How many plugs can I have on one adaptor?

I was just giving an example by the way. You should redo the calcs with your kit just to be on the safe side.

For example, I have no idea what amplifier you have, nor what the max consumption of your HTPC is.

For the smaller devices that don't show the power consumption, a safe calculation is this:-

Volts * Amps * 2

So a 12V, 2.5A power supply would be 60W (the reason for doubling it is that most power supplies are very inefficient.
