Any tips for fellow false chimney builder?

Hi all, i am going to start my false chimney style build soon and i wanted to gather some info (I have loads from the many threads). I will mock up (photoshopage) what i plan to do this week, once i get the approval of the boss

Basically i don't want to clad with plaster board and plaster as i have a baby on the way and we don't want the mess and trouble with moving all the furniture out of the room. It's a new build so the walls are straight.

Can it be easily done with MDF (Green stuff). I like the grooved style i have seen and it seems less messy. Also as i currently have a 32" LCD, and i will be upgrading at the end of the year, what's the best way to prepare for the extra size, i was thinking of the mdf panel around the screen to become removable, so i can adapt to the new size... Any tips please?
