Thanks: Gave 1, Got 7 | Home cinema project, advice needed
Hi
We have just finished building an extension and plan on making a home cinema room.
We have decided we want either in-wall speakers or ceiling speakers.
The advice i would like is, which would be the better option for sound, what the best make/type of speakers to use, where to buy them from and any other info that would be of help
Thanks

Ah ok, if the interior still needs to be finished, lined and plastered etc, it's gonna make thing's much simpler for you.

I remember when my extension was at that point. It was a really exciting time, planning for all the cabling, power points, mounting supports etc.

Depending on your budget I would go for inwalls, simply so you can position them at a better height for listening.
just my opinion but I can`t help thinking that ceiling ones are more for surround sound rather than dedicated 5.1 listening to movies stuff.
Which are the best, well sit down here.................................
How big is your budget my outlay so far for my inwalls if you were to buy them new today is around £4.5k then you need some good amplification to make them work, Oh and a couple of decent subs £2.5k.
So thats around 9 grand, then you need.....................................
So in other words we need to know your budget, room size and if you have any equipment already.
You can see mine in my thread somewhere but these are really very high end speakers so you might not need/want to go this way.
One of the big problems with inwalls in the impossibility to demo them as well, I was thinking initially about Monitor Audio CP Golds or Kef 9000`s at the time I was looking for some but simply on not being able to listen to any went and got these MK`s and am I glad I did, they are unbelievably brilliant but should be shouldn`t they
good luck and keep us posted Al |

I would doubt that you would get an in wall or ceiling system for a grand i'dgo for wall mounted and cut some in walls into the plaster at a later date

If you shop around and are willing to buy used equipment I think your £1k could get you what you need.
I am not suggesting you buy these, this was just a quick search...... Sonance Cinema System 2 THX In-Wall full 7.1 speakers. on eBay, also, Speakers Hi Fi, Home Audio Hi Fi, Consumer Electronics (end time 16-Apr-09 20:38:12 BST)
You could also check the classifieds on here for a good deal.
But NEW, I think you will find it hard to get a good sounding in-wall set-up for your £1k.
Good luck with your project

What would a more realistic budget be?
