Taking cable from bedroom to lounge below ?

Hi guys

I am looking at hard wiring my PC to PS3....my PC is situated in an upstairs bedroom whilst PS3 is in lounge.

I am looking to stream music/videos, but due to issues with wireless (to slow) & using homeplugs (also slow due to noise on line i think) I am looking to run a cat5 ethernet cable between the two to solve.

As a complete noob I would appreciate some advise.

I can see 4 alternatives;

1. Take the cable from PC up to loft, right across loft, drill thru outside wall take cable outside & bring in back next to PS3 at ground level.
2. Take the cable into loft again & somehow feed cable between breeze block & plasterboard (dot & dab) all the way down to lounge
3. Take the cable into loft but bring cable down in bedroom above lounge then somehow take wire from this bedroom directly below to lounge
4. Drape cable all long skirting boards all the way down stairs (dont really want to do this due to unsightly cable everywhere)

So what do you think ? As i said I am a noob & would really appreciate your help. I am OK getting cable thru ceiling into loft but need some help with getting cable either outside of house, or down internal wall or between floors

Many thanks
André

Re: Taking cable from bedroom to lounge below ?

1. if you are taking the cable outside, it would need to be protected ideally, shielded if you like.
2. might be hard getting it down, depending where the "dabs" are - you should have a cavity between the brick and your inner wall though, might be able to get it down there
3. it would look crap coming down a corner of a room upstairs, then again downstairs unless you could hide the cable quite well...dont have chimney your not using do you
4. doesnt have to be along skirting board - pull your carpet up get a long enough cable and run it between the gripper and the skirting board to wherever you need it.

I would go with option 4 personally. if done right, you wouldnt see it at all.

of course you could always get a wireless repeater downstairs and not bother with any of that lot

i dont think he will be able to use the cavity as it may have cavity insulation.

the corner of a room may work deepending if you have painted walls or papered walls. a friend of mine ran his speaker cables up the corner of a wall and then covered the cables with decorators cork and flanted it out and painted over it. but i think that would mean 3 rooms in your case.

Would be interested to hear which option you went for in the end as I am contemplating exactly the same thing!

cheers!
