Fitting PJ screen to ceiling!

I've got to fit our new 92" Sapphire manual screen to the ceiling, after the wife has finally agreed. I'm however really nervous that I will bodge it ant take out the electrics or puncture a pipe.

I assume I need a stud detector? What screws would I need for the bracket?

I'm in a modern premises with plasterboard ceilings. I cannot gain access from the floor above.

Re: Fitting PJ screen to ceiling!

you find joists in the right places but if your in amodern block of flats the ceiling may be suspended so no joists i would use plasterboard balloon fiitings

Re: Fitting PJ screen to ceiling!

Hi it's a middle floor of a 3 storey house. I assume that by finding a joist I will be safe from causing any damage.

Re: Fitting PJ screen to ceiling!

any pipe work SHOULD run through the top of the joists and any cables throught the centre, so you should be ok, your joists will either be 400mm apart or 600mm apart.

or 450mm apart. and pipes can also run in the center. A soil pipe could also run across there.

If its a new build there will be no notches as they don't allow it any more.

If you find out hich way the joists are running the mark 0.25 and 0.4 of the span in from each end that will be the area where any cables run for your reassurance

Re: Fitting PJ screen to ceiling!

cheers, got a mate coming around to have a look.

I can even make hanging a mirror look hard, so really need someone to do the install. My friend said he wouldnt screw to the joists and suggested bolting them, probablem is then getting the floor up in the room above.

Re: Fitting PJ screen to ceiling!

don,t bolt it. that is overkill. 4" Screws would be more than enough to hold that up. If you want some thing stronger use coach screws but i am sure you will be limited on size because the holes in the brackets
