I can assure you from experience that the Crown range of 'Suede' paint is very forgiving and hard wearing too.. I would be surprised if your kitten could scratch it off once fully dried!!
I have used this paint on MDF panels in my cinema room and it does a great job of covering most imperfections with just one liberally applied coat.
As to the cost... well I didn't find it to be that much more expensive that a good quality standard paint from say Crown or Dulux etc.
I always try to put off buying items like this until the DIY stores have one of there '10 or 20% off' days anyway so I can take advantage of lower than normal costs!!
