Computer setup from loft to livingroom

Hi Guys,

First post here but been an avid reader for months now.

Just recently moved into a new house and got a nice big toshiba 42inch. I used to have my big laptop under the tv to run movies from.. But now in the new house its way too noisy and want to hide it away somewhere. I was thinking perhaps putting it in the loft and running cables down to tv in living room and bedroom. Does this seem like a plausible idea and where would i get lenghts of cable for audio s-video and possibly usb?

MY brother is a sparky so thinking he could try to run the cables from loft down stairs..

There is an aerial cable already coming from loft down through the wall but havent checked if the wall is solid all the way down or not to run the cables.

Any ideas guys?

Ebuyer and ebay are good sources for cheap but functional long cables. If you want something more exotic others will probably offer more relevant suggestions.

I struggled to find long usb cables so just chained 2 3m extenders which worked fine for me.

How do you propose to control the laptop from a different room? USB RF keyboard?

Yeah if i can get a long enough VGA cable or s-video cable.. Any particular one being better than the other.

S-Video is all blurry on desktop but good on video?

i assume vga will be good on desktop but not sure what it will be like on video?

I want to hopefully buy a plate on the wall with vga s-video and audio out so its all neat.

In regards to control prob going for keyboard with touchpad accessed via bluetooth.

CPC farnell - google it. They have shed loads of cables at cheap prices, I've ordered from them for years.

CPC farnell seems like the place to go for the cables..

All i need to do now is get my bro to see if there is space to feed the cables down to the livingroom and all should be good.

If anyone has any advice on putting one in the loft please post here as really looking for lots of ideas
