What is this?

Hi fellow AVers!

Not really up on my Thermalite/Breeze Block/Concrete, so need a bit of help, sharpish like!

Gonna hang nearly 60kg on the wall in the morning.

My walls are dot and dab, so have drilled a hole in the plasterboard to see what's behind it - I don't know what it is.

See attached photos.

Also, have photographed the attached fixings which I'm going to use.

Any help appreciated!

Re: What is this?

i wouldnt trust that at all mate. go upgrade asap, the cost of some heavy duty fixings will be a ripple in comparison to the cost of the damage youl do to your wall and screen if you use them and it goes wrong...

Re: What is this?

They 'aint gonna work matey - they'll just pull out of that flakey concrete blockwork.

Also, with that gap between your plasterboard and wall, it's going to bend/crack the plasterbaord when you tighten down on it

Re: What is this?

i'm gonna cut the plasterboard out and screw directly to the concrete...

Oh, and those screws\plugs are the ones that come with the stand...

Re: What is this?

3" 10s with brown plugs would be good enough to hold and screen up. so many people are paranoid about fitting screens.

I see it like this, if i can screw a kitchen unit up which is held with 4no 3" 10s then that unit which on its own weighs 30kg +- then it is filled with tins of beans etc and stays on the wall i'm sure 10 screws in a wall bracket will hold more than well enough.

and in concrete block you can get worse fixing if you drill right through the block as it can spelch a good amount of block off the back side

Re: What is this?

Those are standard concrete blocks (breeze blocks). They are not a thermal block.

I would go with brown plugs and 3 inch 10's as suggested.
You are also right in going directly onto the block (cut the plaster board)

Re: What is this?

TA-DAAAA!!!!

I used 12x3" coachbolts with some heavy duty (gold coloured plugs), i reckon I can swing on it if I wanted!

Am going to chase all the wires back in behind the plasterboard once the tree has gone etc.

The difference being that the kitchen unit weight is spread over a much bigger area both size wise and pressure wise (i.e. surface area) compared to a wall mount which is much, much smaller in size with lots of surface area missing within the mount. This also means that a mount is likely to have more fixings per block. Also, a plasma/LCD mount may be a cantilever altering the stress massively when extended and moved etc.

I've ordered my Rigifix mounts from Mark Grant off here 6 Rigifix mounts (each tested to 105Kg!) delivered for less than £10... do you really want to bother cutting out plasterboard at these prices?

Do a search for 'Rigifix' and read all the posts like I did - you wont find a single post where the rigifix user wasnt happy! One guy hung off his mount after using them and he weighs over 20 stone and it didnt go anywhere LOL! The best thing too is, should you ever wish to move the mount, after pulling the Rigifix's out, all you will have to do is use some filler on 6 plasterboard holes!

Re: What is this?

For kitchen units there is only 2 small hanging brackets around 75mmx40mm each. These hold a unit up 1000mm x720mm.
