120" fixed frame projection screen help

I want to install a 120" fixed frame (for my epson projector) on a wall that has a door I don't use thus I'm lacking the optimal smooth surface a fixed frame should be mounted on. What are some ideas to situate and center the frame a few inches outward? (i.e. are there like 2 heavy duty wall extension brackets out there that I could place above the door and support something like that because I don't wanna drill or manipulate the door at all). -thanks for any advice

well, if you are buying a fixed frame screen like a beamax for example. it would be a case of seeing how they are mounted to the wall and simply raise those mounting points out to be proud of the door.

I could see perhaps some 2x2 battons being attached to the wall like a frame and then the screen mounted to this.

just dont let any guests open the door! I can just imagine a cartoon-style hole where someone walks through your loveley new 120" screen :D

what are battons? and if you can visualize, the door is on the far left side of the wall so the bottom-left corner of the frame would need mounts going into the door and im tryin to avoid that. is there hardware that can suspend that frame by just two upper brackets on each corner then stabalize the bottom by other means?

A batton is simply a length of wood ie; 2 x 1 inches

Ususally a fixed frame screen simply hangs on a long length of aluminium channel.

So if you fix a piece of batton (wood) which is slightly proud of the door casing architrave at the height you want it, then screw the channel onto that and away you go.

Usually a door architrave is no more than 3/4" so a 2 x 1 " batton will do, also if you fit a length along the bottom as well it will stop the screen from rocking.

I would then remove the door handles

I simply used cut MDF pieces with 48 inch long and 8 inches deep (18mm thick) mounted the first panel to the wall with adhesive and platerboard fixings (to pull the piece tight and flush and assist the adhesive)

I then mounted two additional pieces on top to bring the mounting out to a total of over 50mm to clear a dado rail as my screen is wall mounted and I needed to lower it a little and the wall dado rail was in the way. These were mounted with adhesive and screw fixings.

These plates are then used to mount the fixed screen supports

The reason I used 8" deep was to ensure a good wall fixing and allow flexibility with vertical screen placement
