New room layout advice

Good Morning all. Plenty of hours have been spent looking at some of the wonderful creations on here, some amazing stuff!

Now the time has come for me to ask some advice.

I live in a small 1bedroom house, a shame I can't move really.

Anyway my electric fire packed up the other day and it has really got me thinking on having a rearrange, and buying some new furniture.

One thing that really bothers me is having nowhere to sit and eat...so I have tried to work this into my plans.

I have some questions, and some plans attached to give a rough idea of what I am looking to do.

1. I would have a listening distance of 2.5M (8 feet) as shown in attachment 1. I have 3 options for speakers: bookshelf on stands, floorstanders, or actives(I have a recording background). Lets say a budget of £600-800 for speakers alone. am I just too close to benefit from floorstanders?

2. I would like to have a wall mount fire below the television, lets say it is either a fan assisted downdraught, or a convection type. would there be a problem with the heat? assuming a 6"-8" gap between the 2.

3. centre speaker could not feasibly go in between the fire and the television, suggestions? (see attachment 2)

I listen to a lot of music being a musician, and like to watch a film or 2, so I am trying to compromise the equipment list between the 2. I was planning to use my existing equipment, and chop/change bits out as and when.
I cannot decide between actives, floorstanders, bookshelf, subs, centres etcetc.

for some info my equipment list is as follows:
Mordaunt Short 902's at the front
DPI centre (cheap, old, large, but does the job)
Some cheapo sony surrounds, just for films
Floorstanding Sony ss-x7 (currently unused I dont like the sound but not tried in different layout)
Sherwood 6106 av amp (no preamp outs!, to be swapped out for something WITH preamps for future poweramp action at the front)

So thats about it really, help with chosing a type of speaker to fit the room and tv location.

thanks in advance!

L.

Well I thought the same, but my current fire is fan assisted, and the hot air comes forward and down, not vented from the top.

Or it would be a convection type, that doesn't blow air but the glass front radiates heat.

Would you be concearned about putting a TV above a radiator? Not sure how much different it would be.

Re: New room layout advice

Hmm. Wonder if I can get one of the heat transfer boys at work to do some calcs for me

To be honest I did think it would pose a problem, really want a fire though, and it is of course a source of heating for the room (no central heating )

The current layout is as shown, with 2 large (they were cheap) sofa's commanding the floor space.

A gaming music lover and movie junkie's paradise.
