Help with a dirtyearth problem

Hi guys sorry if this is in the wrong place.
Im having problems with a projector on to a smart board,it has interference lines on the image and have been told it could be due to a "dirty earth".
I have disconnected the power source to the laptop and the image is fine, ive also tried several other power sockets in the vicinity and its still interfering with the display. Is there anything i can do to limit this or is it a sparky's job.
thanks in advance
lavi

Re: Help with a dirtyearth problem

Do you mean that when you disconnect the power to the laptop the image clears up? What sort of cable connects the laptop to the screen?

People can be very quick to tell you that the problem is caused by a 'dirty earth' when they usually have no idea what they are talking about.

Yes,if the lap runs on its battery the image is fine.its connected to the projector via VGA ,to the smart board via USB.The vga runs up trunking and over the grid ceiling tiles to the projector .Ive checked for it crossing power in the void.

Re: Help with a dirtyearth problem

The VGA cable wont be a problem then as the image is clear when the laptop is unplugged. Is the power lead going into the laptop power supply figure of 8 or cloverleaf/IEC? I.e. 2pin or 3pin?

Re: Help with a dirtyearth problem

In that case I would suggest that you try another laptop or device that has a VGA output to see if the problem persists. Im sure ive seen this problem before somewhere but cant remember when, where or how it was resolved!!
