Our new wall-mount project..

Hey all,

Firstly let me explain the situation.. we live in a newly (2 years old) rennovated barn / old cow shed. The walls are 3ft stone, with a new extension constructed from a double "skin" breeze block cavity. It is on the join to this new extension that I had hoped to hang the new TV... so I knew at least one side of my bracket would have to hang from the old stone.

Let me just say that a) dot and dab is a pain in the a, and b) this is taking long than I had anticipated when starting this project (Tuesday).

Anyway, my new kit has arrived so here are some pictures of the DIY project so far.. I just need to fill the channel we dug for the cables and paint... oh, and hang the TV

First things first.. get the tools out...

Lay the TV down on something soft..

Take a peek at TV and dribble..

Then look at the speaker and realise it covers a 3-seat couch!!!!

Hide the packaging from the mrs..

Cut large hole for bracket, skim stone with cement..

Bunch cables (existing)..

Channel the wall for the new cables..

Fix bracket through MDF to wall using hefty bolts...

Use waaaay too many "tap-con" screws to ensure fix...

Looking good so far, I would also seal the edge of the plaster with paint or pva to stop any dust

Looking great. I don't want to alarm you but I read somewhere (so it must be true) that you shouldn't leave plasma/lcd tvs lying flat on the ground. I'm sure it'll be fine but I'd rather be safe than sorry

Currently, it's only laying down that way because it doesn't have a stand; a case of "it has to be like that".

Hoping to get it on the bracket tonight after the cables are plastered.. more pictures to follow later.

Not to worry, got the old man to help out.

I've realised something I've messed up, although the fix shouldn't be too difficult at this point.

I've put in an aerial (male to male) lead, so it connects to the TV but not to the RF1 output. Looks like I can either fish the cable out or buy a connector (needs to be male - female). I've thought of both and decided that because I padded the channel with cardboard I may be lucky enough to fish a new lead up. Can't believe it

At least the worst case scenario is the lead can't be fished in and I just buy the connector, but I'd rather replace the whole lead so it's done.

Had my first test of the set last night. WOW! I'll post some update pictures later. I was too excited with my first viewing that I spent too much time watching the TV, instead of taking pics.

Keep them pics comin'...

Don't think there is anything wrong with laying them down flat. Transporting a plasma face-down is risky due to movement-induced stress on the panel.

Install is looking good so far. Got a kit list?

I don't know, I fancy a choice between the Onkyo TX-SR875 or the Pioneer VSX-LX60.

As I say, will get the speakers in the new year so I've not even decided on those at the moment

Some final pictures, now that it's finished

Took some elbow grease to get the sanding done to a wife-to-be-friendly standard, but I think I pulled it off.

Been a good mini-project, and I'm pleased with the result! (I also managed to fish in the correct cable, so I didn't need a converter)

Is it just me, or is the TV scew? Looks a tad over in the anti-clockwise direction! Might just be me though :s

It's perfectly level (believe me I've checked at least 5 times since it's gone up! haha), I think it's the lighting in the shots

You know what, now that I look at it closer, it looks like a bit of a shadow cast on the wall at the bottom left of the tv :P

When I installed my TV bracket I discovered it was not straight. It's more noticeable with a 50" plasma. I did manage to straighten it by inserting a screw where the TV hooks onto the wall bracket. Turning the screw adjusted the height at that end.
