Anyone boxed a JVC 100 to reduce the noise ?
I am going to give this a go, simply because I notice the background noise of the JVC in quiet scenes which an be a little distracting.
I will probably design an alloy case (lighter than wood and can be welded to provide a neat case) Just trying to work out what to line the case with or sund absorbtion (It will be high frequencies that are the most noticeable, so thinking sticky backed felt) and how much room/ventilation to leave. Plus obvioulsy access to the IR for remote
Any ideas as I am starting from first base on this one

Looks like I will be the first then
I have designed an enclosure that is being made and will then affix with two sound absorbing products, again will keep you all posted

Re: Anyone boxed a JVC 100 to reduce the noise ?
I sketched this up some time ago for someone on here, search 'hush boxes' as they do come up on here from time to time.
Basically open front design with large fan at rear, the bigger and slower running the fan the better, best to vent into another room if possible. Best foam would be open an open cell type, 15 to 25 kg/m^3. Memory foam beds are good if you can get offcuts....
Dupe...

Re: Anyone boxed a JVC 100 to reduce the noise ?
Hi matey
you obviously know what your doing here, my only advice is ventilation and please make sure you have it well cool for the pj as bulb life will shorten very quickly I would have thought.
The problem you might have is depending on which way you have it mounted and I would have thought in a case the right way rather than inverted is that most pj fans vent at the bottom as my Sim does. This does nothing to help the fan noise so I`m interested how you get around this.
Keep us posted on this one please
cheers Al

Re: Anyone boxed a JVC 100 to reduce the noise ?
Box all made up, just need to fix and colour the outside
I will post a few pictures tomorrow. I have had a view from a friend as I hold up, believed at least a 50% reduction in perceived volume, perhaps 3+ db ?
I will measure when ccomplete, I'll try and post piccies tomorrow

I said you were tallented ....
Although not a JVC, this is my pj enclosure for the HC6000 and it really does make it totally silent from the seating position below. Just a few pics to show it in construction days....... and as Al says, the all important warm air extraction system for the pj & the av rack equipment.
Looking forward to your pics.

Looks great, here is my unit ready to be mounted
I will be fitting more foam on the ceiling to complete the surround. A hold up test seemed positive

Bear in mind the JVC has two air intakes. One on the front and one on the underside.

AVI, yes thanks
I have 125mm of air clearance above the PJ. After fitting the inside dimensions will be 100mm clearance to the sides, 50+ mm below the 'top'. I think that will be enough as the manual is okay with 21mm below 150mm above and good side clearance for the front fans. The back is fully open and the front overhang is less than to the sides is less than 100mm
I will post some pictures when up !

Are you finding the noise problem even with the lamp mode set to normal and high altitude mode turned off?

Yep .............
At my seat I measured 24db I sit 15 or so feet back from the screen the PJ is about 6=16.5 feet back and probably 5 foot up from head height.
Just measured it and it's now 15 db I think I might be able to get better just want to make sure it stays cool. The right hand side vent blows out the hot air, I have 100mm side clearance after filling with foam and the vent is only 100m behind the front edge so most of the exhausting is unshrouded

Watched a film tonight and didn't notice the projector noise at all. Early days but I think I am there in the noise front

I have mocked up a back panel that hangs from the ceiling 100mm or more away from the back (airflow should not be restricted) and this brings the noise down to under 14 db. to put this in context in a totally quiet room general house heating noises, gas meter boxed in the cellar total 9-10 db.
Compared to 24 db unboxed a 10 db reduction is a lot very pleased
The runners, brackets pulleys and rope is on order Adjustable masking is on it's way. The only pain is having to reposition the screen as it will need to drop by 4-5 inches for top clearance

Re: Anyone boxed a JVC 100 to reduce the noise ?
Exellent !. I too have a preliminary drawing for motorised top and bottom masks using pulleys etc using very rudimentary construction behind the scenes (panels really) so to speak but from out front should look completely respectable. I will take a close up pic of the top area of the present set up which might help to clarify the idea. I don't want to get too carried away at this stage as i am waiting on further info from Otto at Beamax re: their motorised masking.
