Making speaker wall plates?

After some clarification of what I am doing is OK? I have drilled a satin finish blanking plate and fixed two binding posts and solders the + an - speaker cable to the binding posts. My question is will the + and - stay separate? or will the metal plate cause interference?

Hope that makes sense.

Re: Making speaker wall plates?

By the sounds of it, you have just joined together the +'ve and -'ve posts. If they are all connected to one piece of metal, they are all connected. That's not something I'd recommend doing!

Re: Making speaker wall plates?

It all depends on which binding posts you're using, and what they are made of.

Re: Making speaker wall plates?

As Richard says, it depends which ones you are using. I made my own plates too, using sockets rather than binding posts. In my case, and this goes for most of the options I looked at, the posts have a plastic sleeve that isolates it from the plate. You can see some detail of how I made mine in the posts below.

I sourced my fittings from CPC with the blank plates coming from Screwfix.

Re: Making speaker wall plates?

Thanks for the help guys, looks like mine will be useless as I have used the brass binding posts Is it possible to get plastic washers? as I prefer the brass binding posts to the plastic.

Re: Making speaker wall plates?

Do yours not have any type of insulation on them? Do you have a link to them?

Try this link. http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/re...ana+socket&Ntx=

If it doesn't work search for item no's AV15599 & AV15600, both are gold and have isolating washers.

Hi looking at the link mine are similar to http://cpc.farnell.com/AV15601/cable...ignal-psg02053

looking at the ones you recomend, would I be able to use some nylon washers to isolate them?

Re: Making speaker wall plates?

Can't see why not, just make sure that where the binding post passes through the plate is full insulated so that it cannot short out.

Good point, I will run some insulation tape around the thread of the post to make sure.
