MINI Home Cinema build starts today......

Due to family I am having to "down-size" my home cinema.

Over the next week or so I will add to this thread with photos etc.

I only have a room about 3m x 3.5m to work with, I have to partition my current room to make space for a corridor to the bathroom.

I intend to "sink" a 42" Plasma TV into the wall to save space and give it that "look", plus allow me to put my 82" electric screen flush on the wall.

I have to keep the noise down too so I am using a 225mm stud wall, (double Stud) with 2 layers of plasterboard on each side and insulation between.
A heavy fire door should cut down even more.

Hidden cables, swanky lights & switches.

Here are the before shots.
(You can see the old screen)

I noticed another thread with a rope light going around the ceiling, I think I may have to copy that too, very nice work. Cheap too.

So, enjoy looking over the next couple of weeks, any thoughts would be appreciated. However I am doing this on a miniscule budget.

Now I'm off to do some wallpaper stripping. LOL

Re: MINI Home Cinema build starts today......

I'm starting something very similar this weekend. Again a rejig due to a little'un!

I will be decorating my front room to include my home cinema. we sit across our room which is 7 metres long and 3.4 metres wide so I previously thought a projector was out of the question? Apparently not. what projector will you use and what size picture do you expect to get? I'm really excited now!

Re: MINI Home Cinema build starts today......

OK, end of day 1, just finished, Midnight, devoted or what?.

Wallpaper gone, skirting board gone, old screen gone. everything gone.

Some of the quality wiring i've found....

Here's the Plasma Screen I'm fitting, well, it's the one i'm using for the size of the hole in the stud wall.

The wood for the stud wall(s) and the insulation has arrived, too dark for a photo now, 10 bags of acoustic insulation slabs, 50mm thick enough for 72 sqm.
I'm gonna use it 200mm thick, only 16sqm then, i only got 9 in the trailer and had to put one in my Audi S4, arghhhh!!!.

So, ceiling tomorrow, I may get onto the studwork. Hopefully the cables and lights come tomorrow.

Re: MINI Home Cinema build starts today......

wolfboy79:

I have an old Epson EMP3500 I am going to use for short while, then I will get a shorter throw projector when I see exactly what I have to play with.

You can get a projector that will put up an 80" screen from 1m, so no problem with 3.4.

Do a google search for short throm DLP / LCD projectors for more info.

Re: MINI Home Cinema build starts today......

Another progress report.

Ceiling re-boarded, then skimmed, not by me I must add.

Double Stud partition mostly up.

(Done this for sound proofing reasons, got a ton of acoustic fibre to fill the void with)

Some more shots of the framework.

Heres the first fit of the plasma panel, some AV cables too.

Got to fit the mains and the rest of the AV cables tonight before bed.

The screen fits in the hole. LOL
More pictures later.

Thoughts so far?

Re: MINI Home Cinema build starts today......

Wow looking forward to seeing this progress. Top job and very brave approach with the TV. I had enough stress taking my Wii to bits just to change the housing!
