My modest setup

My CRT popped and migrated to flat screen. Was hesitant as we do not have HD yet in Abu Dhabi. The local telephone compeny has a digital cable as our primary source. Was pleased to see a good pic on the SONY LCD sitting at about 4m from the screen with the digital cable.

I was itching to set it up the way you guys have done after I saw the gorgeous photos of a few of your setups. We do not own our apartment here - we expats should rent from the locals a kind of tax to say. So did not want to go for a floating wall and perfect lighting etc. Can't say when landlord can send us packing.

Some pictures for your comments.

AV equiment:

SONY BRAVIA KLV-40D300A
Bose 321 DVD/Media center - you can see speakers on the stands
Sony Hi-fi VCR
EVision cable

Yamaha AX496 amp
Yamaha CDC585 CD changer
Yamaha Tape deck
Jamo - E855 speakers for stereo

PC
E6750 2.66GHz/Intel DG33 Mobo/2GB,800MHz RAM/580 GB HDD/DVD RW/Vista and self assembled - planning to add video card with HDMI- would it help?

AV Rack from IKEA
Stand for Bose Spkrs - IKEA

The backlight is a simple 5W cool daylight Compact Flourescent. Many of you are using ropelight. Do you get in cool white or only the warm incandescent? I read somewhere to use cool white for backlight.

Any comments, suggestions? We are planning a refurb of floor and paint walls.

Is there any advantage in mounting TV on the wall other than saving space on the AV rack?

And the black/dark background some have given to the wall around the TV? Is it only a choice?
