Upgrading my Sound set-up?

Hi everyone,

Currently I have a 42" Samsung plasma, Sony DAV-DZ230 DVD home cinema and a PS3.
The DVD player is really naff and was a quick 'we need a new dvd player' purchase

Anyway, the PS3 is connected to the TV via HDMI, the DVD is connected to the TV via HDMI, I have no way of connecting the PS3 to the DVD home cinema so only get stereo sound from my PS3. There is no optical on the DVD home cinema so now im looking to get me a better system so I can get good sound from my PS3 and take advantage of the HD films.

Now im generally pretty good with gadgets and gizmos but when it comes to home cinema im pretty much useless

My budget is not massive so around the £300-350 mark would be good.
Can anyone sudgest something?

Cheers
Nick

Also wouldnt mind being able to use my Samsung R700 laptop with the new amp as it has an HDMI output

Re: Upgrading my Sound set-up?

You might be better posting here:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/av-amplifiers-receivers/

Also if you only have Europe region 2 DVD's then maybe consider just using the PS3 for DVD playback, I read that it is quite good?

I would guess that if you change you amp you will also need to change your speakers, a lot of the all-in-one speakers are only suitable for that system, perhaps someone else can verify this.

As you have a PS3, you might want to get an amp that supports that HD sound formats available on HD Disks, look for amps that support LPCM (this is where the PS3 decodes the audio then sends to amp via hdmi).

Maybe consider the Denon 1908, Sony 920/820 or Onkyo 605/606.

Good luck and always get a demo/listen to the kit before you buy.
