Few questions before mounting TV.....

Hi All

Just about to hang my 40"-er on the chimney breast, just got a couple of questions....

1 - how important is conduit? I've bought some but just wondered why I couldn't plaster the cables in the wall.

2 - Is it true that if I drill into the flue, I could be releasing carbon monoxide?? I think the previous owner had a disgusting gas fire.

3 - Is No. 2 an issue? Is the flue normally behind several bricks and wouldn't be affected by simply hanging a TV bracket??

Thanks in advance

Hi,

- You can just plaster the cables into the wall if you wish. Conduit will allow you to replace or add to them at a later date, if you need to, and if you've sized it adequately. You can just put the thin capping over the cables if you wish, but this is to simply protect the cables from damage by the plasterer. It isn't a necessity to fit it.

- Do you mean there's no fire there now? You would only release anything if the chimney is still in use.

- It depends on the construction of your house, and of course what you are using to fix the bracket. It could be brick, one or two courses deep. If it's a modern house it could be hollow blocks, with the flue internal. Can't tell without looking.

HTH,
MarkP

Re: Few questions before mounting TV.....

Thanks a lot for the reply.

No, the fire is not in use anymore, it's been boarded up and made into a decorative place for candles and girly stuff!

So I guess it doesn't matter too much if I accidently drill into the flue?

- I would agree with that, although it's obviously preferable if you don't. But you certainly won't be releasing gas.

Cheers,
