| Sound insulation IN a chimney
I'm not sure if this is quite the right place for this thread, but as there are many experienced DIY'ers here, its a good place to start.
We have a bot of a problem in our 1930's house - When our neighbours have their TV on in the downstairs lounge, the sound echos into our bedroom via the chimney.
In our house the lounge is directly below the bedroom and the chimney breast passes through the bedroom on its way to the chimney. Sadly we cant take it out as it is shared with next door and it would be a pretty major structural job.
We dont use the fireplace in the lounge and it has an electric Dimplex fire fitted purely for cosmetic purposes.
Next door dont use their fire either.
When we're in our bedroom, you can hear the noise from their TV clearly coming from the chimney breast. Listening against the other walls and floor, you cant really hear much but as soon as you listen against anywher eon the chimney breast you can hear it.
From this I assume the sound from their TV is travelling up their chimney and somehow finding its way into our chimney.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this?
