After much reading and learning from this forum I finally embarked on my own Snellfish/Groove style project.
I have lived in my house for 6 months. It is a new build (3yrs old) and I felt it was time to personalise it a little bit.
I managed to rope in my Girlfriends Dad for the technical bits of the work (all of it) and we got started on Saturday morning.
We discovered after making about 10 holes in the wall that there were no studs, and plans had to change. Cue Polyfiller and a trip to screwfix for me to get some different fixings.
After wasting about the first 3 hours, with the end result being lots of unnecessary holes and no fixings, we finally started making some progress.

So towards the middle of the afternoon the frame was almost complete.
The space next to the socket on the bottom right is to fit a spur double gang socket before fitting the MDF.
Next was fitting the tv mount to the wall batons. This was just to give added support to the structure. Ideally I would have mounted direct to the wall but the lack os studs meant this was probably not the best idea.
We were both confident that this would provide more than ample support to hold the weight of the tv.
Once we had called it a day for the building, I went ahead and properly tested the mount, and added the rope light..
The next day came and I started by carefully preparing for the spur socket. Unfortunately, there was blobs of concrete and plaster where the socket was meant to go and we would have spent all day just working on this, so I decided to use 2 * 6 way extensions from the existing socket and not bother adding more. Cue more filler..
Before adding the MDF we chiselled out a cable run for the tv wires to exit nicely.
Next we cut the MDF panels to size. Used 12mm mdf.
We soon realised the MDF was going to restrict access to the sockets, so took a chisel to the panel to reduce the thickness at this point, allowing the 2 sockets to be able to be (just) unplugged and plugged in.

The MDF was quickly mounted and the join was surprisingly good
So at this point my help left me to get on with the wiring and plugging in of everything. This took in the region of 2 hours!!
Lots of protection for the new carpet and newly decorated walls, and the first coat of primer went on
some more filling and priming later and making progress
After I was happy with the mdf prep i applied the first coat of Dulux Expresso Shot feature wall paint.
couple of coats later I was ready to add the rope light for behind the tv. I thought this would be a cheap substitute for LEDs, but it doesn't really give a strong effect. I'm undecided as to whether it will stay at the moment.
Got my equipment up and running and this is what we have. I will update with more completed pictures later hopefully.
