Lining paper on MDF?

Hi all.

My brother in law is building a floating box to go around his tv and av equipment. It will need two boards of MDF joined and so he is going to cover it with lining paper to cover the join between the two.

My opinion is that

a) the join will be replaced with four (albeit, barely noticeable) wallpaper joins...and...

b) it will look crap.

I also think the finish on the paper won't look perfect, as I think it should.

Has anyone ever tried this and what were the results like?

I have looked up other methods of getting a good finish on mdf and covering joins but everyone has a different opinion....

Use P38 multi-purpose filler for the MDF joints. Leave to dry and sand. Simply paint the mdf with emulsion. First two undercoats should be mist coats, i.e. 25% / 75% paint mix. Once this has been done leave for a day for both to dry-out completely.
You should have a good foundation to work from. (Remember that the sawn edges of MDF require extra attention (more painting) as they may look a slightly different colour).

I used this on my lining gaps - Works a treat!

Doesn't shrink/crack like polyfiller and gives a smooth finish when sanded.

Thanks alot guys, great help, will start reading up on it now. He has seen sense and is not going to paper it over, and I have been assigned the task of making it have a great finish.....
