Mounting a Projector Screen
I am currently contemplating installing a projector system in a flat.
The living room is very roughly 4.5 metres square, and has a solid concrete ceiling. As will all builds, the ceiling is not totally horizontal. Pictures of the front of the room can be seen in my set up thread, linked to in my signature file
I would like to mount a 2m by 1.15 m screen in front of my bespoke furniture as below. The height between the ceiling and the top of the cabinet door on the left had side is about 12 cm whilst on the right hand size it is closer to 10 cm.
I am contemplating installing a Sapphire Mayfair electric screen in front of the unit. Basically, whilst I have a couple of ideas on how to mount the screen, I would throw it open to those who have more experience and knowledge. Obviously the screen wants to be in the middle and relatively horizontal.
So if you have any comments or ideas please let me know
Adrian

Okay my main idea currently...
Becasue the ceiling isnt level, If I were to secure the screen to the ceiling I would beed a blocking plate of some form to get it level - not very friendly on the eyes..
So my current idea is to get some wood, and if possible secure it to the top of the unit behind the wooden pelmit or what ever it is called. It would be secured by glue though maybe securing it with screws would be required. However working space is limited...
Ideally the wood would have a over hang to which the screen brackets could be secured to.
How does this seem, how feasible do youthink it is?
Adrian

Yes I can - its that it is pure concrete....
Also as the ceiling isnt level some form of packing will be required to make it level...
What cuning plan are you thinking??

Adrain, I have my electric screen mounted very simply and you can adjust the level of it at any time.
My ceiling is NOT concrete but it will still work out the same..
I screwed 2 large hooks into my ceiling about 50mm from each end of the total screen casing. On my screen casing there are 2 holes on a fixed braket to allow for ceiling/wall mounting, i then used 2 oblong/rounded hoops (a much smaller version to what climers use to attach themselves to a rope or rock clasp. They have a threaded part on then whick you just tighten up and it closes the "open" part of it forming a solid unbroken loop.
Then i used some light duty chain cut to what ever length you want your screen to hang (drop) When you have fitted the chain to the screen casing just hook it over your hooks in the ceiling.
To adjust, to get your screen level, just give your ceiling hook a turn in or out or a half turn until you get the screen spot on
All the parts needed for this i got from my local "Bunces" and cost no more than £10 !!
Regards Bacus

Have you checked the ceiling with a spirit level? It is quite possible (even likely) the the ceiling is level and its the furniture which is not.

Sounds interesting....
Firstly what is the distance between the screen and the ceiling?
Secondly do you have a photograph of this method?

Distance between the ceiling and the screen casing is about 5 inches. I will try and do a pic now. Regards Bacus Quote:

With some Eye and J Bolts you can achieve the above without the chains
The screw threading will provide you an ajustment so you can get the level you need. If you look in my thread I did something similar with my first screen.

Thank you all for your suggestions, but due to hieght clearance issues, I think this 'hanging' approach is inpractical.
Quite simply I do not think I will be able to fit in the screen within the 10 cm clearance that I have for the opening of the cabinet door.
So back to the drawing board it seems.

Hi Adrian,
I would suggest either packing one end of the screen fixings to create the 'level' fixing points for the screen and fix to the concrete ceiling but, if you want to fix it to the top of that cabinet hood/top, you would need to ensure it was strong enough to take the weight of the screen.
Looking at your photo, if the peice of wood between the cabinet and ceiling is secure, you could pack that out to the same point as the beading at the cabinet top lip to create the surface you will be fixing to. Then you can use the Easy Install brackets which come with the Sapphire screen to fix direct to that.
You could also concider Da-Lite Designer Contour screens which come in many different finishes including wood vanier.
Alternatively, you could fix the screen in position and make a facia board to fit infront of the screen case which you could dye the same colour as the cabinet ?
Hope this helps?

how much are the Da lite screens, and what hieght are they?
My plan for securing to the bespoke unit includes drilling though the unit and screwing the 'bracket blocks' to the units.
Then the brackets of the screen will be secured to the 'wood brackets'
It is a case of gettingn sheppen wood to fit.
Need to liase with the chippy at work this week.
The problem, though of those dalite screens is tha the depth is deeper than 10 cm from what I can see...
So the door on the right hand side will not open easily
