hanging a 63kg plasma on plasterboard? need advice please.
just a quick question guys i want to hang my 55" on the wall its 63kg so very heavy.
trouble is my walls just plasterboard.
but here was my idea
if i build a frame like groove has done here
can i use normal Anchor bolts into the plasterbaord the same ones groove used
would this these Anchor bolts work on plasterboard.
also if i have these Anchor bolts also going through the wood framework like groove did on his do you think this would support a 63kg tv.
anyone please advize.
thankyou

Re: hanging a 63kg plasma on plasterboard? need advice please.
I am not sure you need to go to all that trouble. All you appear to be doing is building a stud frame in front of a stud frame plasterborad partition!!! Do you have a picture of the mount you are going to use? As if it fits close to the wall and it is more than 600mm wide, which I guess it is, you could just locate the timber studs in the plasterboard wall and screw directly into the wooden studs behind the plasterboard. You would be amazed at the weight a stud partition can take if fixed properly..................

Assuming of course there are studs behind the plasterboard and not dot and dab.

Re: hanging a 63kg plasma on plasterboard? need advice please.
the bracket would be this i would be buying
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/30-63-Fixed-Wa...QQcmdZViewItem
reason i wanted the frame as i was going to build a floating wall like groove did. plus i thought it might help in the strength.
i have never had my plasma on the wall and got visisons of it falling off as its real heavy 62kg me and my mate had to pick it up to put it on the stand alone so wanted somethink very secure and not worry, so wanted best possible way for strength plus have a floating wall.

That bracket looks like it fits close to the wall and therefore most of the weight transferred to the bracket will be pulling the fixings down and not out and forward. As long as you can locate the vertical wooden studs within the plasterboard wall the brackets is wide enough to be able to fix into two vertical timbers. Provided the brackets is screwed into the timber studs and that there are sufficient screw points I dont think you will have a problem! If you want to build a false wall then that will also do the job!
As with any fixings, always test the final fixing before mounting the LCD to ensure that the screws have gone into the wood and will take the weight! I usually try hanging off the fixings using my full body weight..........

Hi there
Screwfix do a range of hollow wall anchors/and a product called snaptoggle which is very good and easy to use comes complete with m6 bolt.
www.screwfix.com
also try
www.fischer.co.uk
they have fixings for most applications.they also give you pull out ratings for their fixings
hope this is of some help
by the way my pioneer 436xde is on a plasterboard wall using fischer HM hollow wall fixings 8 of them think the whole sheet of plasterboard will come off before the screen will .If you can locate the timber stud then using heavy wood screws like No12`s should be suffice.remember to drill a small pilot hole when putting in the screws so as to avoid splitting the timber it will surprise you how secure the fix can be .But as above check out the load strength before hanging the screen. The fixings you were looking at are for brick or concrete no use at all for plasterboard, there are specific fixings for hollow or cavity walls
good luck

Re: hanging a 63kg plasma on plasterboard? need advice please.
ok thankyou for the help.
am i right in thinking just screw the plasma bracket straight to the wood when the frames up as in picture?
think i would be always thinking of the screws ripping out of wood with the weight of the tv
i thought somethink into the plasterboard then through the wood would be better?

The screws will never just rip out of the wood. Just make sure you sure enough decent quality correctly sized screws. Also make sure the batterns are fixed correctly to whatever is behind them.

Re: hanging a 63kg plasma on plasterboard? need advice please.
When I did this i discovered that I had thermolite blocks behind the plasterboard which was dot/dab. I don't believe you can use anchor bolts with thermolite so i used large 12 heavy duty plugs with 10cm bolts and filled the holes with no-more-nails before pushing the plugs in. details on my install thread

I installed a 50" panasonic and its rock solid

Re: hanging a 63kg plasma on plasterboard? need advice please.
well the walls just plasterboard.
so will it be ok to use raw plugs and 4x50mm 8x2 thread screws. to secure the frame to the wall?

When you say its just plasterboard its only generally 9.5mm or 12.5mm thick!! Also plasterboard has no strength unless it is fixed to something! If it were just plasterboard you would be able to snap it in two by just leaning on it heavily! Are there any doors or openings in the wall so you can measure the depth of the wall?
Standard stud walls are usually approx 100mm thick.

Re: hanging a 63kg plasma on plasterboard? need advice please.
20.5mm sounds a little skinny to me. Pretty sure the timber Groove used was 47mm thick. I'd go for something like CLS as a minimum, it's measures 63 x 38mm & is usually one of the cheapest timbers to buy. IIRC, it's also buy 4 get the 5th free at B&Q

Re: hanging a 63kg plasma on plasterboard? need advice please.
Cunny678 just found out its a studded wall mate,
i was just going to put the frame up useing raw plugs and screws would this would be ok? as i thought it would work as im putting a large frame up ?
or will i need special raw plugs for plasterboard?
benraz69, ok thanks i will buy some 63 x 38mm , i did think the wood i bought was slightly thin and dident know what size groove used to guessed.
any ideas what sizes the other wood as noticed in picture he also uses from what i can see from picture a thinner inner piece and thicker center section?
