Small home cinemas - opinions sought!

Hi
I am thinking about converting a small room in to a home cinema but I am seeking opinions on small room sizes.
The room I have is 1.9M wide by 3.4m in length x 2.1M high.

If you have a room of similar size can you post your thoughts regarding sound and general opinions?
I plan to use all of the equipment thats in my sig.

Cheers

Re: Small home cinemas - opinions sought!

My room isn't much bigger at 2.3m wide, 4.1m long, and 2.4m high.

Can't tell you how it sounds yet as its not finished, but should only be a few weeks.

Re: Small home cinemas - opinions sought!

I am worried that its too narrow and i'd be overpowered with sound.

Mini fan eh ? I used to own a mk1 Cooper S full works replica a few years back great cars

Re: Small home cinemas - opinions sought!

I will be watching this thread as I have a room I am thinking about using as a dedicated one it is 2.4m wide X 4.1m long X 2.4m high.

It does seem a small room to convert but I have toyed with fitting a projector in our much bigger lounge and I can't decide whether to go for a smaller dedicated room or not.

The against points for the lounge outweigh the plus points in my mind as a dedicated room gives me more options for such as light control and decor as well as being able to use a cheaper fixed screen to leave on show rather than having to shell out for an electric and have to house it away neatly in the ceiling. I also don't think I could live with a projector hanging above the sofa. I know you can use an in ceiling lift but the cost for them is probably as much as or more than a projector.

Re: Small home cinemas - opinions sought!

hmm sounds like the measurements of my completed dedicated cinema room 3mx2m ish

ill grab some details and pics for you to help you decide, but I think the size I have is just right, the projector isnt ceiling mounted either, and I have a monster 92" screen for the space... the sound system is not amazing at present, its on next years budget but ill do a more detailed review for you when I get back from work tonight, in case it helps anyone

Re: Small home cinemas - opinions sought!

Ok room dimensions are 335cm long x 261cm wide x 236cm high
Kit is:
92" Saphire Parklane series 16:9 Matt white screen
Sanyo PLV-Z5 projector (screen and proj both purchased from cvsmedia)
*Temporary* Sony DAV S300 5.1 hooked up with S-Video cable as thats all ive got on that souce kit
Sub is turned right down and still gives off the desired bass effect. Doesnt echo in the room so sound for me is perfect. My bro has got a really decent sound and source setup which I will eventually upgrade to similar items at some point, to make use of the HD projector and HDMI connections.

I was contemplating the same thing with dedicated room and lounge room. Lounge is 457cm x 317cm so a fair bit bigger. But the layout an use of it wouldnt really fit a cinema installation, and would be more work really. So I decided to keep the two seperate in the end.

a Few pics, room still needs some paint on the wall im just deciding on some dark colours to complement its use ie dedicated cinema room. The window is blacked out with some fabric I found lying about, pitch black during the day so cinema experience all day round:

Projector and mount using an old TV bracket, wasnt much space at the back and the damn window was in the way to do anything easily.

The projector screen, please excuse all the crap at the bottom, its a makeshift "cabinet" actually part of a corner computer desk on its side

and the comfy seating at the other end of the room, was thinking on sofa, but when looking at the costs involved thought bean bag sofa would be better use of the space, and its very very comfy

Re: Small home cinemas - opinions sought!

Thanks for info.My rooms only 1.9 so the extra 600cm or 2 ft makes all the difference if mine was that wide I wouldnt be too worried but at 1.9 its only just wide enough to fit my screen in.

Anyone else?

Re: Small home cinemas - opinions sought!

This is great!

I am now really coming round to the idea of small cinema room. I mean if you can use a room as a dedicated cinema room it has to be better really doesn't it? Making a lounge fit the bill will have to be something of a compromise in most cases. In a small room you can maximise screen size across the width and the sound system I would imagine could work really well toned down to suit closer listening.

Anyone else out there with a smaller room as a dedicated? any piccies...
