Cables behind working gas fire?

Hi I need some help and advise.

Im looking for a way to run some cables to the other side of the room for my living room set up.

Going throught the ceiling and under the floor are out of the question.

Would it be possible to run cable through the chimney behind the fire place?

I would idealy drill about 10inches up from the floor and run through. Obviously the heat issue is to take into consideration, but what if i ran through some metal type of trunking or something? I have no idea if this possible or not, wether the heat generated would really be an issue as the fire would only be on sometimes in the evening for a maximum of 3 hours.

There would be no electric cables just AV (Hdmi, speaker wire and the sky HD).

Would this be possible?

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a plan just so you get a rough idea of what Im trying to achieve.

Thanks in Advance.

Re: Cables behind working gas fire?

Don't go there
Putting holes in what is effectively the flue could cause so many problems (some fatal) That it would take a day to explain it all.
Take the cables a different route . End of..........

Re: Cables behind working gas fire?

Hi,

I had the same problem and ran the cables under the fire, sandwiched between the floor and the hearth. That way there was no heat issue!

Well I Live for my AV but wud I die for it? No chance.

I take it that was what you meant by being fatal?

Oh well back to the drawing board I guess. Shame really but there is no way of setting up the system that I want other than having to run wires to the other end of the room.

Thanks anyway.

I thought of that but the skirts stop at the fireplace as there it is an old cast iron fireplace that sits on slate slabs.

Hi Dude,

Can you explain a bit more about how you did this "sandwiched between the floor and the hearth" and what tools you used pleased?
