I want to hang my LCD on the wall - how ?

Have a 37" Sharpe LCD screen to which we want to hang on an (internal) wall

Are there any tips or guides ?

The wall itself does not seem hollow, but then again it does not seem very hard or heavy either - not sure if its a stud wall or not

What do I need to do to ensure its safe and secure and also whats a recommended height ?

If its a new style house the wall will more than likely be timber/stud wall. Tap it with your knuckles, if it sounds hollow then it probably is...

Wall mounts are easy to choose, most websites will tell you which mount suits your screen.

Concerning height, somewhere in the middle, between your ceiling and floor. If you have reclining seat then you can go a little higher - but I'd say don't put the top of your screen above 4 feet or around 50"... whatever you feel comfortable with. My thread explains bits that may help you, but the best advice I can give is to browse through all the threads in this DIY section.

Good luck...

The sound of the wall is strange

It certainly does not feel as hollow and echoy as the wall dividing the bedroom but it does not feel as hard and solid as the outside wall

It may be dot n dabbed. This is common on houses about 20-30 years old ( mine is 30 years old). Basically they dot plaster onto a breeze block wall and the push the plaster on. This forms a small hollow between the palsterboard and the breeze block.

You 'could' try drilling a hole and seeing what you get

If you can't work it out by drilling, you could always work out the place to wan't to hang it, then cut a 100mm x 100mm hole in the wall with a stanley knife which you would cover with the bracket, you would defently work out what the wall is, or more fun for us, you could post a pic of the sample hole to us on here, so we can all peer into it
