Re: Bt Scocket And ASDL Combined

You will need to open the phone socket in your bedroom and check if it is a Master or Slave unit (master has capacitor in it) , I would of guessed it is a Slave. The link you provided (http://www.home-networking-online.co...lter_1254.html) is for a Master socket.
If its a Slave then try this http://www.adslnation.com/phpapps/ca...products_id=95

Quote:
The XTF-68/85 sockets are designed to replace existing extension sockets or for installing new extensions. The XTF sockets should not be used to replace the official BT NTE-5 master socket, as replacing your master socket is not permitted under the terms of your contract with BT. If you want to replace your master socket then please use one of our XTE-2005 faceplates that replace the front of the master socket leaving the BT wiring untouched.

Re: Bt Scocket And ASDL Combined

The link you show in post 1 is what you need. Although that is expensive, you should be able to get one for about £10.00

http://www.amazon.co.uk/NTE5-compati.../dp/B000IBIIPK

On post six, this unit just replaces the piece that is shown on the left hand side of the picture.

Re: Bt Scocket And ASDL Combined

as Leaky5 say's, you were defo correct in post 1

the socket you are showing is the main BT one that takes the drop cable from the street and all extensions are wired back from this

it's the 'new' style, that allows the bottom half to be removed for customers wiring, but the main BT only cables remain 'hidden' from view

also has the test socket behind it

Re: Bt Scocket And ASDL Combined

I've changed my main socket to one of these. Makes such a difference to broadband speeds as all the rubbish is filtered out. Easily worth the money

Re: Bt Scocket And ASDL Combined

Why would it matter if you replaced a slave socket with a master exactly? A master socket is a universal replacement, no need to cut the capacitor out - but for the NTE5A you need to fit an NTE2000 frontplate or similar - make sure you don't mess with the master socket, or at least if you do don't do it in a detectable way (ie. in a way that obviously isn't BT engineer compliant)

Re: Bt Scocket And ASDL Combined

Never quite worked out what the capacitor does. I was in my house for 3 years ( with Broadband ) before I found out that the external BT wiring was punched down onto the IDC'c in the removable part of the master socket, i.e. bypassing the capacitor. It was changed back to how it should have been, but made no difference to the BB speed.
