Are wooden look MDF coverings available for DIY Cabinet?

Hey folks,

I'm not bad with the old MDF having made many car boot builds etc and am looking to custom make a cabinet only problem I have is what to cover it with as fabric isn't an option which is what I have always used for the car builds.

I'm looking for a wooden finish, can you buy like sheets of veneer that I could cover it with myself and for it actually to look any good?

Thanks

Colin

Try click-lock flooring finished with hardwood edging... That's the route I'm about to take and it looks blinding. I've bought the materials... I'll be putting mine in place this weekend, if time permits. I may change the colour/style I've bought but the premise remains the same.

I'll be uploading some progress pictures tonight... if I remember, I'll take some quick pictures of what I mean. Click my link (below) tonight... If I forget remind me.

The Fablon stuff is waht i am talking about. How does it look when fitted, good? If done well enough can it look like a bought unit or does it look like you;ve stuck something on?

Mine looks good, and very easy to fix. The wood finish Fablons are better quality compare to black / white / clear

Re: Are wooden look MDF coverings available for DIY Cabinet?

Veneered MDF is the best way to go as long as you can either mitre the edges or finish the edges with solid hardwood.

Alternatively, you can buy veneer and stick it on but it's actully quite a skill to get it right.

Personally I don't like fablon or any other plastic finishes but that's probably because I like woodwork!

The front speakers in my sig are built from 19mm Ash veneered MDF sheets with hardwood edging. Ignore the sub - it's a prototype!

Good luck
Mike
