In wall speakers question?

I'm moving house and wish to take my M&K in wall speakers with me but i'm just wondering how much work is involved in filling the holes and what has to be done at what kind of costs and by which kind of tradesman?

Depending on how large the holes are (and assuming that the walls are plasterboard) this is something that you may be able to do yourself. I'd do the following:

1. Once you have removed the speakers, attach a couple of strips of wood behind the existing plasterboard.
2. Cut and fit plasterboard to fit in the hole and attach to the wood.
3. Fill and sand round the edges.
4. Paint to match the existing walls.

If you do a good job on the painting and sanding, the old holes shouldn't be noticeable.

If the speakers are mounted in breeze blocks ( or masonry) you just drill a hole and put a rawlplug in.

Here I am again

when you remove your MK`s you will have room top and bottom of the hole where you can get a fixing behind your plaster boards ( I know cos I`ve got them). I would drill the plaster boards carefully and fit 2 pieces of 2x2 behind by screwing and silicone each piece, I don`t like no nails stuff its crap IMO.

Then simply screw your new piece of plaster board on and skim over, I would have thought that a good plasterer could do it all for you if your diy skills aren`t up to it in a morning so costs for materials and labour should be no more than £80/100 tops

Thanks for your replies but just one more question i intend to use my in wall speakers for a brand new house and wondered how long i have to wait before the walls are ready or can they be put in any time?

Hi Ashley

if you look at my thread you will see that ours is a brand new self build house as well. If yours is ready to move in its ready to cut out for your speakers as well.

A tip I would give you is when you remove your speakers from where they are now measure the size and depth of the openings and make the ones in your new house the same.

One more tip is that if you don`t post pics of your new install we`ll all have to come round in droves to have a look for ourselves
