Before I start my project........

Guys,

My own lounge refurb is going to start soon (will post pics and lessons learned at the end of the project) and got a couple of questions that I'd appreciate help on.

1. I wanna future proof the AV equipment in terms of wiring. My concern about burying everything is the lack of flexibility afterwards. I was thinking of running the wires through ducting and putting some strings in allowing new wires to be pulled through. Is this a good idea or are there better ones?

2. I will most likely floorstand my speakers and run the speaker wire underneath the carpet or floorboards. However, I'm unsure whether to run each end to some speaker sockets and connect the speakers in turn to the sockets OR connect the speakers directly to the wire.

With the latter option I imagine the speaker wire will just come out at the end of the carpet and to my mind, this seems not the best of finishes.

Would appreciate all the help I can get as I'm only gonna have one chance to get it right.

If you can`t get the speakers close enough to the speaker plates on the wall what about putting the plates into the floor just behind where the speakers will stand so hiding them as well.

definatley run truncking big enough for more cables and pull wires would be a great help

also don`t wait till the end of the project to post your pics

Are you removing the skirting board at all? I ran speaker cable under the floor, then chased the wall so that the cable went behind the skirting, then comes out over the top of it. If you put a bit of spare cable under the floor, you can pull/push it a bit to get it the right length for the speaker and allow a little movement.

Not sure yet if we're changing the skirting board. We're removing a wall so will see what impact that has.

Isn't it a problem the way you did it that if there's ever a problem with the cable or you want to change the cable that you're pretty stuck?

Have you thought of using wall speaker sockets. Would give a better finish and look nicer?
