Wall mount height ?

How high should the wall mount be on a wall for it to be in the ideeal viewing position so its not a strain to look at

or is this just trial and error

A lot of people seem to mount their sets quite high up on the wall but I think it depends on the size of the room and the viewing distance.

I've just mounted my 40" LCD on a chimney breast. My lounge isn't massive and my viewing distance is probably about 2.5 meters. Decided to mount the TV such that the centre of the screen was approxiamtely level with my eye height when I'm seated in the sofa opposite. This equates to 90cm - 100cm from the floor.

If you're interested, there's some pictures of my installation here ...

Hope this helps.

Re: Wall mount height ?

We've mounted ours quite high on the wall as we want to put a second sofa underneath it to maximise the space in the room.

When we watch TV we tend to slouch on the sofa so it's actually at the idea height for us.

Make a cardboard cutout the size of your TV then stick it to the wall and experiment with different heights.

Pics of mine are on my thread on this part of the forum

Re: Wall mount height ?

With mounting Flat Panel screens on the wall becoming far more numerous now it will not be long before we start getting health warning reports of repetitive neck strain due to people mounting these things too high on the wall.

The correct height when mounting any screen is; centre of screen at or near to your line of sight, just the same as speaker positioning is best at ear level. The shorter the viewing distance the lower the screen should be if you have to look up this is not a comfortable viewing angel. (Lots of people mount screens more for the aesthetics than for comfortable viewing)

If you like sitting on the front row of the cinema? Stick your screen up hight.

Re: Wall mount height ?

Mine is quite high, but I sit quite a distance from the TV (very big living room!) so this suites me fine:

I think it's about 4m x 3m but I can't remember.

Can't wait to get it all finished though! Sparky is in on the 20th to the lighting/powerpoints then it's just plastering to go!

Then I get on and get the lounge/kitchen/porch painted!

Re: Wall mount height ?

Can I just ask, how long are the bolts that go into the wall?
