Moving GAS and Eectric meters, cost?

Hi,

Soon to be moving into my new house in a coupe of weeks and is a grand fixer upper opportunity and have close to £20000 to spend on it, which will also include a new 50 inch plasma in Sept if the Pioneers live up the the current hype.

I will be building a new HT living room, and fitting a new kitchen, bathroom and sorting out a loft conversion as the stairs are in the wrong place.

First thing i need to inquire about is, i need to move my gas and electric supply 3ft to the left as i need to move the porch to living room door 2ft to the right so that i can partition off the stairs in the living room.

I ask if anyone has had their services moved and how much would i be looking at?

Thanks.

I'm sure if you rang your gas and electrical supplier they would be able to give you a rough quotation.

I should think you'd have to seek permission from them to have a third party move the meters as they would otherwise no doubt accuse you of tampering with them.

3rd partys arent allowed to touch anything before the double pole isolator as it is all regarded as your suppliers property. You arent even allowed to remove the fuse before the meter if no isolator is fitted to allow you to change the consumer unit.

I work for a leccy distribution company.
They charge about £400 to move the meter on the same wall...

Where abouts in the UK are you.

If you are in the north west (Manchester/Liverpool) I may be able to get someone to move the electric meter for you. They will not be able to move the incomming supply cable or cutout ( the bit with the fuse in it) tho as that job is carried out by a different part of the company they work for. Drop me a PM if you are in the area above.
