Chimney Breast Mount - Advice plz

hi ppl.

we're making plans to have a new bedroom fitted in the not too distant future and have been inspired by some of the excellent installs on here which look awesome.

we have a chimney breast in our bedroom with a non working fireplace in it, the ajoining bedroom also has a non working fireplace in it. however, downstairs has 2 working fireplaces in the chimney (gas).

my thoughts for mounting the lcd and concealing wires were to drill a hole (behind tv) all the way into the chimney, drop the wires down the chimney into the fireplace where i will provide a power source. im also hoping to make the actual fireplace into an attractive shelf/shelves which will be lit by downlights or led strips.

so, my concern is, will drilling a fairly large hole (big enough for plug) in the chimney breast into chimney affect its performance, remembering that there are two working fireplaces downstairs? ive got visions of the room filling with smoke and fumes and/or wires melting in chimney.

im not gonna be needing many wires to tv, only power and aerial, no other av equip. i just thought if i dropped the wires down chimney and had a power source concealed under the shelf in fireplace it wud be easier than chaneling out walls.

any advice would be greatly appreciated. building out the chimney breast aint an option due to space.

thanks a bunch ppl
