Speaker Cabinet Renovation

Currently all my speakers are black, with black grills. I plan to decorate my room in some form of off-white, magnolia or similar, and am tempted to paint my speakers, as at the moment they look a little heavy and clunky.

Has anyone any experience with those wood grain effect paint kits ? Any pictures of results ?

I was thinking of a maple or light oak, and re-clothing the grills silver.

Any feedback or advice appreciated

Re: Speaker Cabinet Renovation

Carefully remove the cones, but be aware that some makes may have soldered the connections on the back of the speakers. If possible photo or note down which wire goes where.

I recommend (after testing on an inconspicous area first) cleaning the surface with meths or similar to degrease the speaker. Also lightly rub down the speaker with fine sandpaper/wire wool or risk the paint flaking off. You might like to look at some of these 'paint anywhere' kinds of paint that work on wood/walls/radiators and apply with a roller gives a good finish (well on my window sills anyway!).

I was going to do this myself with my old AE100 bookshelves, but found some M&K tripoes in white so I'm afraid I took the easy way out....just throwing money at the problem instead.
