Thanks: Gave 13, Got 12 | Type of bolt for PX70 wall mount.
Bit of a follow on from the wall bracket for PX70 thread...
I don't trust the bolts supplied with the Skytronic tilting wall bracket (another member here posted the heads had snapped off two already) so as mentioned by another user on these boards I'm going to use anchor bolts.
The bolts supplied required 10mm drill bit and are 95mm long...the anchor bolts which require a 10mm drill (M6) bit have a thinner thread (M6)...the slightly larger ones require a 12mm drill bit are roughly the same size as the long bolts supplied. The M10 bolt...
Not knowing which one is surplus and which one may be a little weak for the job I'm hoping someone here uses these bolts and could possibly guide me...this is a heavy and expensive piece of equipment that I really don't want to see cascading towards my living room floor!
Cheers.

One of those you linked to would hold your telly on it's own.
You have nothing to worry about with those
I use them regularly for supporting large pipework.

Cheers Badger - can you confirm I would be best off with the larger M10 bolt? These should still fit through the gap in the bracket (it's a tight slot).

Bigger the better
Consider that the greater diameter is giving you more surface to grip.
I'd say 60mm long would be plenty, but they will do fine.
Put it this way; normal steel holds a weight of around 20 tons per square inch, so M8 should be ample.
The trick to it all, is drilling a nice neat hole.
IE don't wobble the drill about.
If it feels iffy when you tighten the bolt and doesn't tighten properly, it's a bad fix and will need re-drilling.
If it tightens fairly quickly, you know it's a good un.
But don't go ballistic when you tighten, it's not necessary.
I'm making it sound complicated, it's not really
And brick is the best you can fix to, for strength, IMO.
I'll stop rambling and just say I think they'll be fine

Cheers Badger.
I'm having to go into the concrete lintel below the brick, but this appears to be strong enough concrete.
I usually use the big, grey raw plugs (the one's with arms!) and they've held firm lots of things...I need that extra bit of guarantee for this one though (especially with kids around).
The M6 threads are a lott smaller than the thread on the bolts supplied - the M8's just about matched, but I wanted to check for this type of 'fancy boltage'.
Many thanks.

You're more positive than I at the moment badger!
I've put dozens of shelves (usually into bad, crumbling plaster etc but have got by). This is hefty telly...once this is up and on (perhaps showing Sky at Night with Patrick Moore just to really test it ) then I'll relax!
Actually, current concern is over the length of bolt which fits through the arm of the Skytronic tilting bracket and the back of the PX70...it seems to fit ok for me yet another poster with the same set up had bolts supplied which were a couple of mm to short...brave new world all this hanging telly business!
Thanks badger.

Not quite sure what you mean there, but probably that the op drilled too deep and hence it never left enough thread sticking out.
Just stick a bit of tape on the drill bit to give you an idea.
You'll be fine

Oh, also, I don't know if it's three or four fixings.
If it's four, you only need to get two right and that will still be plenty, IMO.

Badger - the concern was the bolt/s which enter the back of the plasma (4 in total) through the arm bracket of the skytronic tilting mount - the poster advised that the bolts included were 2mm short so he took out the longer bolts which prevent the bracket from self tilting and used those instead.
I have used the bolts provided and they have gone through the bracket/washer and into the TV fine - I've tightened them up sufficiently so I'm wondering why it worked ok for me...I feel as though I've missed something out and the darned thing will come a crashin to the floor when I hoist this up!
see the section which starts off in red: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=20
It may be that he just wasn't supplied with the correct bolts and they've now been updated??
Cheers.

No comment re your answer.
I would only say, if you've drilled them and yours are ok, having tightened nicely like I said, you've done a good job
Now try and pull it off the wall
Stop worrying, I'd trust my life to just one of those pins, correctly fitted.
In fact, I have done.
But don't tell H&S

Looks like you're more than prepared for this job.
IMO if the whole you drill feels good you've done the hard part.
And I have the big brother to that bracket and once it's up securely you've got nothing to worry about. I have done chin ups on mine and I weigh 80kg!!

Aye - it's set up now- thanks all.
Managed to place 6 M8 95mm bolts in...the metal 'arms' of the anchors which you place in the drilled holes were a little loose (should they be...I used the correct drill bit) - I wedged a strip of cut plastic anchor just to make sure.
I had a really good push down on the bracket (attached to the concrete lintel) - strong as an ox.
Cheers folks...catch you in my 'where shall i put my av gear and wires in this brick fireplace' thread |

Great job looks nice
You'll pull the wall down before the bracket
Now you can have something to really worry about.
It looks like you have motion blur, going by that bottom picture
I'm joking , I swear
