Thanks: Gave 141, Got 52 | Best way to hide ceiling cables for projector?
I'm just about to mount my projector on the ceiling. I have chased YUV, HDMI, DVI & S-Video into the ceiling and wonder what is the neatest and most discrete way to hide the cabling as it exits the ceiling.
I had thought of using one of these: http://www.home-networking-online.co...eplate_50.html
Alternatively I could use a blank plate cut to size to fit and a rubber grommet (and perhaps cover the cables in heatsink).
Any other suggestions? I want the neatest finish possible.

the projector mount i have has a rubber tunnell going down the entire back of the arm... so what i did was mount the brackets inside the ceiling/floor divide and the cut the hole in my ceiling and passed the tube into this, secured from inside the cavity so the cables run inside this and only exit just behind the projector.
I did have to take the floor boards up upstairs but i feel the neatness of the finished product was worth the effort.
I will try and get a picture taken and uploaded before the weekend to show what I mean

I used a cut blanking plate and then wrapped the wires in plumbers PTFE white tape.
It's not perfect but it's good enough unless you are looking very closely !!

Just had a look at your pics on your website Bruce and the finish certainly looks good. Off topic, but do you have a wireless pad for your xbox and if so have you worked out how to use it with your av cabinet closed?
One idea from my wife is this. My mount is a vogel one with a silver tube attaching to the ceiling. She has suggested sourcing a similar silver tube to mount next to it acting as a conduit for the cables.
I'll speak to vogel to see if they would send me one, but otherwise anybody know if there is anything like this that I can use? Spray painting a piece of metal pipe is one option.

. | Spraying shiny silver color out of an aerosol can does not look very good. You would need the right equipment and fine sand between multiple layers.
You could use silver foil duct tape. You should get it in a building center and it costs very little.
It is used to fix the insulation sheets under a e,g, parquet floor. You could wrap it around a plastics tube?

If so, it is an Xbox 360 and the controllers are radio based not IR, so they work through the cabinet fine.
I do also have a media remote, which is IR, but I have learned the codes into my Marantz RC9200 remote, and this transmits radio which is received inside the cabinet and converted into IR. Quote:

Epoman
I'm a bit late to this thread, but thought I'd throw in my tuppence worth. I looked at a number of options for mounting my projector (Hitachi PJ TX 200). In the end, I made one out of an Ikea table leg (hollow, metal, silver, 50 mm across), and 3 bits of pre-drilled metal as arms. A hole drilled in the ceiling (into the floorspace of bedroom above) allowed the cables to descend through the hollow leg and exit a custom drilled hole just above where the leg attches to the projector. A few M6 bolts (and a little patience) and I now have my proj connected up with only a single pipe descending about 20-25 cms from ceiling. Cables are all but invisible (except where they connect to proj at back). Tidy enough - if anyone is interested, I can post photos.
I would imagine that there are a number of ways to use the table leg, but given that it only costs £1.75, it's not a bad place to start!
Best
