aluminium stud partition wall??

does anyone know what this is exactly?

i am moving into a new house that has it and i need to mount a plasma on it.

it is usually thin alluminium box section roughly 2x2 inch, in my opinion nowhere near as strong as 2x2 timber, when first erected without any plasterboard attached it is very flimsy then sturdies up as you attach plasterboard.
personally i wouldn't like to hang a plasma on it, but someone on the forums who is more familiar with it may advise differently.

Thanks for that mate, one way or another, i am getting a plasma on that wall....if it kills me (or the plasma....i'll make sure its covered in the accidental home insurance)

Would you think if i fix it in lots of places as well as lots straight into the plasterboard it would be secure enough??.....afterall, plasterboards hold up a radiator filled with water???

give it a go mate, i would rather fix to the ally though rather than the plasterboard,
as for radiators these will be battoned out at some point not fixed just to plasterboard

yeah i guess they would be battened....i went to speak to the builder but he was useless, i may as well have asked my wife.

I think i will just cute a small section of plasterboard out (where the cables will go) and assess the wall from the inside.

Nothing is going to stop me wall mounting this plasma. i spent too long planning it!!

The sutds should be positioned at 600mm centres and will be 50mm wide so if you can find out where the studs are cut out a square of the plasterboard 700mm wide and as high as your bracket then replace with some mdf or other timber and fix your bracket into that!

I wouldnt reccoment using the studs for fixing into as the threads may pull through the studs in time as its only made of tin about 1mm thick!
