New LCD Entertainment wall.

Hi there, I stumbled across this site by accident and the info I have gathered is superb.
I am currently refurbing my living room and I am removing the old coal fire and back boiler. I am looking towards having everything off the floor.
I am looking at the Sony Bravia KDL40v2000 lcd tv, I am wanting to use my existing stereo with built in amp this is Sony MHC-NX1, for the speakers I am looking at the Infinity TSS-450.
I am a newbie to all this stuff and the jargon just baffles me, so if you guys have any sort of comments please make them simple enough. lol Cheers for looking.
P.s. the wall is a chimney breast and I was planning on filling the space left by the fire as built in shelving to accomodate the sky box, dvd and stereo etc. I was also thinking of framing it out by a few inches to give the tv a sunken in look, I'm happy for your views on this too. I am open to all ideas of lighting etc.
The wall itself is 1430mm wide and 2450mm floor to ceiling at highest points. The ceiling has a supporting beam right in the middle so the height to that is 2270mm.

I got the old solid fuel fire out yesterday so I will take a few pics and post them to let you all see what I am dealing with.
I was also thinking of using 2"x2" for framing the open space. Do you think this will be suitable?

With your sunken look idea, make sure that that the TV has enough ventilation.

Probably just better idea to sink the cabling.

I done a fair bit of searching last night and I did come to that thought too. At the right hand side of the chimney breast there is a hole where all the pipework used to be, so I was planning on having all the cabling down there and fixed to socket panels. I was then going to put all wiring behind skirting boards and wraggle the walls to the speaker height.
Good idea?
or would it be better to have sockets above the skirting and then jus wraggle shorter cables?

Funny you should say that as there are a couple of pentagon stars done in green crayon further up the wall.
The writing you actually see said "F**CK YOU ROSE?". Dunno why you'd ask a question like that.lol
I had to deface it as my 7 yo son would have told everyone.

has any one else "built in" their equipment?
I am wondering what would give the best finish for the front. Mdf or plasterboard and getting it skimmed.
I am opting for the plasterboard as it is a hole that will need to blend in with the rest of the wall.
Any suggestions or do's, don'ts would be appreciated.

Oh and in the first post I said I fancied the infinity tss-450 speakers, I have now changed my mind and I am looking at the Sony sa-ve835ed. What a sound off of them.

What is the ideal or usual height for a wall mounted screen?
I've had an idea for the position of mine but now I'm thinking it's a bit high.

Update on new equipment:
I have now purchased as follows,
TV - Sony kdl-40v2000
DVD - Sony dvp-ns76h
AMP - Sony str- dg700
SPEAKERS - Sony sa-ve835ed
These will also have the wall mounts too.

I know it looks like I have robbed a sony centre window display but when I got to mess around in the local sound proof room this set up was excellent.
I still only have sky+ as I am trying to justify the extra cost involved for the hd box.

I have also been told that all I need to connect all of this together is 1 x dvi - hdmi lead and 2 x hdmi leads.
Is this true?

Also what is the best position for the centre speaker?
I thought below the the tv but I have seen quite a few that are positioned above the tv. Any opinion will be appreciated.
