Advice for running rear surround speaker cables needed please.
Hi there, not sure if this is the right section to post this and apologise if not.
I currently have my rear speaker cabes routed under the edge of my carpet to my rear left and rights. In approx 2 weeks i'm due to have laminate flooring laid. The supplier said its best to discuss the options on the day with the installer but I would like to decide before the best rout to follow.
I would not like the cables permanenty installed in situ incase of failure or upgrade. What options are available. Trunking or tubing maybe?
Also the room has concrete floor and the route would run along has a patio window in it. Walls are all plasterboard.
Big thanks for any advice on this

if you don't want to lay the cables between the underlay on the laminate then your only options are to either use trunking, go behind the skirting or start channeling out the plasterboard and use conduit and replaster. The last option would be over the top for a couple of speaker cables in my opinion.
My personal solution would be to lay the cable under the flooring and if you decide to upgrade at a later time then you can run the trunking for new cables and snip the old ones off. If you use the best quality cable you can afford now, you probably won't even need to consider upgrading for years.

Thats exactly what i would do and especially with it being rears you may never feel the need to upgrade.

Are you having beading round the floor? if so the speaker cables can fit in there.

thats what i'd do. you can't really loose that way. if there is a little gap left at the end, if the cable isn't tightly fitted underneath, you may be able to replace the cable to better quality if you tie the new cable to the old and pull all the way through (if you know what i mean), but if you use decent cable in the first place, you shouldn't have to change anything. i'd perhaps suggest you leave a bit of spare cable at both ends in case you want to change speaker position. you can cable tie it neatly behind the speakers or amp

Cheers for the advice, i've asked the installer about the expansion but adding them to the gap would not leave enough for expansion so could cause problems.
I was going to go fo the cable under the floor and if it needs to be replaced/upgraded i can add trunking but think i'm going to go for the trunking. I've found some small 16mm x 10mm that comes with sticky back to fit straight onto the wall. I'll run it just above the skirting board. This will allow me to run my phone cable to to my sky box from the rear of the room.
cheers once again

Hi m8, the sticky stuff while quick and easy to install will cause you nothing but problems unless you buy Marshall Tuflex stuff, the cheap stuff will more than likely fall off and pull paint/plaster with it, there is enough room to stick the cables between the green underlay boards, I have done it loads of times and never had a problem, if you really want to use low cost trunking then go for the stuff you screw on.
IMHO

This is a good range of more decorative trunking, and it is easier to open up if you need to add/remove cables at a later date.

If you give them a ring, they are happy to send samples. I've got these to do the living room/HT setup.
