Mounting plasma to entirely plasterboard wall..

I've done a bunch of forum searches and come up with a lot of conflicting information - use this, don't use that...I'm not sure now!

I want to wall mount a 42" LG plasma screen - the problem is the wall seems to be entirely made of plasterboard with no studs. It's a wall seperating the livingroom from the stairway that leads downstairs. I did some investigating and it appears that the wall is comprised of 3 pieces of plasterboard - the two outer ones are 1/2" (12mm) each and in the middle there is a 3/4" (19mm) piece. This means that I have an aggregate of 1 3/4 inches (43mm) of plasterboard to work with. I think this should be enough to support the weight of the plasma screen, but the question is how do I secure it to the wall? Do I use some sort of rawl plug, or drill right through the wall and push bolts of some sort through from the hallway side in to the living room side? Help please!

Dave.

Unusual wall construction - I assume that it's an old property that's been converted?

If the plasterboard has been bonded together, you should be OK. If the sheets are just nailed on at the edges, I wouldn't risk it.
Whatever, you won't be able to use any kind of plug - these rely on the fixing opening up inside the cavity (behind the surface sheet of plasterboard). Since you don't have a cavity, they won't work!

Bolting straight through the wall would be your ony option. Use something on the stairway side to spread the load. Large washers may be OK, but a plate bigger than the wall bracket would be better. Maybe you could disguise the plate with a picture?

You could cut out a large rectangle(or square), that is smaller than the
display. Then fix a framework and MDF board inside the wall. Then fix
the display bracket to that.

Problem is, there's no "inside the wall"!
Seems that the wall is solid, just 3 layers of plasterboard with no cavity or framework.

Hi m8, you say that the other side of this plaster wall is the stairs, if so why not fix some 2x2 etc to the back of this wall where you need the support to be for the bracket then you could cloak this with some plaster board/mdf etc and make a shelf of it going up the stairs.

Just a thought
