Venetian or other Blinds help needed

Hiya folks

first time posting in the DIY section, please go easy on me...heh

summer is here, good in some ways, bad in others........in this case its bad because my bedroom in which i have my projector and will do for the next summer as well as this most likely is the room that the sun sets on :-(

so a blind is needed to allow the watching of movies before 10pm..lol

trying to keep it simple, the window setup is as thus, approx 9-10ft wide and just under 6ft drop.........there is a windowsill, mebbe 5inches deep......the windows are UPVC surrounds so i cannot fix that direction.......the mountings must go either in the sides of the 'bay' or straight up.........(the blind is basically inside the sill area, not the actual bedroom wall itself, thats where the projector screen is...).........obviously with this size width it will require a fixing halfway along....or two fixings at thirds.......

does anyone know where i'd be able to obtain a blind (preferably venetian) of these dimensions that can be affixed this way?......most usual places such as DIY warehouses only seem to do widths around 5ft or 6ft.........ok if i have to have two blinds i will, but i'd rather have one to keep it simple.....anyone got any ideas? help much appreciated :-)

cheers,
Knyght.

you might be able to buy a larger blind and cut it down from DIY superstores or there are manufacturers of custom blinds?

Take a trip to John Lewis and visit the blind department.

You can of course buy custom made blinds (or all sorts).

For the size you are talking about, sit down before they tell you the price.

I covered the width of my windows with three smaller venetian blinds as a custom one was going to be several hundred quid. To get the right size I trimmed one blind down with a 'blind trimmer'/'Slat cutter' that cost about £4.

BTW Venetian blinds aren't light proof if that's what your after.

You might be better off with curtains. Probably cheaper at that size, as well as being (depending on the material) more light-proof.
If you dont fancy curtains, a couple of blackout blinds should do the job

i had the feeling if i could get a big one made up it would be a bit costly...heh, i might get a couple quotes tho, if i can get it around £120-30 i might be able to do that....

i'm not too worried about it being completely light proof simply because my walls are apple white so i already get reflection from the projector on those anyhow...lol

but if i can get ones that i can vary the slat angle then at least i can get rid of most light and then once the sun has gone down open up a little for more ventilation....

dont want curtains really, they would need a pulling thing to close them as i cant get to the windows easily enough.....that would probably end up costing close to the blind..lol...

black out blind would obviously be the best option, but again getting one wide enough isnt going to be cheap, but also it will cut off any chance of breathing i have.....lol...this room gets seriously hot cuz of my equipment and the sun setting on it, so a proper blackout blind would mean no air getting in or out of the room (need to keep the door closed to keep the cat out.....too many wires for him to play with in here...heh)

thanx for the response tho folks, much appreciated :-)
