sould i use converted loft for hc

hi all, i converted my loft a couple of years ago, at the moment it is used for a computer room however after seeing photos of gizlorac's loft hc i was wondering about using it for the hc projection system i currently have in the living room, my main concerns are sound leaking through to other rooms and next door (semi) and also is it large enough for a 7ft wide 16:9 projection screen the size of the room is approx 11.5 ft long, 10 ft wide ,and about 7.5 ft high at the center, any advice and inspiation would be great......

Hi and welcome to the forums. I have used my loft after converting it around 7yrs ago. I dont have any probs with regards to sound leakage and ours is a terraced house. As long as you keep to reasonable hours of the day, its not often that I use the room much after 2230 anyway. The only thing with the loft is in the summer is that it can get a bit hot. Mine is around 18 X14 and I have an 82inch screen. and sit around 3mtrs from it. You can see details of it in my signature. I would go ahead if I was you, Ive never regreted it.

thanks johnny, as soon as work starts i'll post pics, first i have to decide where the screen and the seating area are going, would like to have the av gear and tannoy mercury speakers fitted into the walls, also looking into the benifits of using carpet on the lower walls, but do not want to spoil the looks of the room.

If you hide the chimney breast with a flush false wall to take the screen, you
could build your fronts into the void.

yes m8 came across it the other day, makes me wish the loft was half that size lol,but that is the kind of look that i would be after maybe with darker walls for light control a dark wine red maybe, would like to put the screen on the chimney wall ,just wondering about the seating at the other end of the room due to the hatch enterance (see pic) ,however the other way round wound make the screen low, the speakers would not really be a problem as there is enough room behind the wall to place them.also added a pic of the polysteirene insulation i used it keeps the temperature quite comfortable but have no idea about the acoustic properties.

I am unsure about soundproofing, hopefully another member will jump in here.

Whatever insulation you use, make sure it is fireproof! Is that polystyrene fireproof? Have you seen how quick it burns?
