Cinema Room in loft??

I have just bought a new house and I have looked at the floor plan and one of the bedrooms is big enough for a cinema room however..........

I have bought the house off of plan and I went and seen one of the completed ones the other day. I couldnt get up the loft but from what I saw it appears to look as though it would accommodate a cinema room.

Has anyone else used their loft a cinema space and if so what should I look for in sizes etc.

Many thanks in advance for your advice!!

If it is a new build house, you will probably find that modern roof trusses
have been used, therefore, bits of wood all over the place. This would
mean major work to clear it.

although the roof is modern as its new there looks to be quite a space up there. It a 4 bed detached house and the roof trusses (?) come from middle if roof out too the edges.

I think I will ask from the drawing and check from there.

Has anyone used their loft?? Just wondering what it takes to ensure that the accustics would be ok.

I'm using my loft, which after building new end walls for soundproofing, ended up with approx 11ft width and 17.5ft length. I'm currently running an 8ft wide cinemascope screen with side masking for 16:9 (curtains).

Accoustically it sounds fine, though the side walls act as bass traps, so the bass isn't as good as it is in my lounge, but in some part that's good - I didn't want to risk loosening any roof tiles. To get the tactile sensation I have in the lounge, I use bass shakers in the seats. Pics on my home page.

Im actually looking to buy my first house at the moment. And top of my list is a loft that would be nice for a conversion (or basement).

Garry yours looks great. Any pics of the chairs up there, etc..

I haven't got any pics, but they're some ordinary recliners with footstools, the type with the 5 wooden splayed feet if you know the type I mean.

Question loft conversion

HI ALL johnone here, im going to start a possible loft conversion, pictures to follow shortly, i ve come across some very negative responses when ive asked builders for quotes to do work for me, 3 didnt return phone calls 1 didnt keep a appointment to see what the job was (he even lives a 2 minute walk away) another builder turned up said my loft and ideas were good and that hed done similar in his own house and hed pop a quote in within 3 days but to no avail, i then decided to enquire about getting some plans drawn but a LA drawer said i dont need them to turn a loft into a music (i have a drum kit) home cinema room
so it looks like im going to have to do it myself and try to get contractors in when joist and roof work needs doing,Has anyone else had similar experiances. any advise would be appreciated

if my house had a loft conversion it would be hard to get up ther because thers just a hole in the ciling and no stairs so if anyone has had the same problem and solved it then let me no, thanks.

i think most houses start with the hole in the ceiling, then the stairs are made after, the existing hole is ually blocked up. Unless you dont bother with permanent stairs and just use a ladder

I increased the size of my hatch and added a hinged door, then fitted a slim set of steps. They can be removed, but even when left in place there's still plenty of room to walk round them to get access to the bathroom and toilet, so quite often they stay up.

I did have a two piece loft ladder that slid back into the loft when finished, but some people had a little trouble climbing it so I removed that and added the steps.

I would defo recommend using your loft as a cinema room. Fortunately for me, the previous owner had already done a lot of the preparation work before I moved into my house. However, I finally got round to decorating it and moving my stuff up there last year. Best decision I ever made. You can't beat having a room dedicated to DVDs and gaming.

Finally got round to uploading some pictures of it yesterday:
Get your Sagem DLPs out

If I was going to do it again, there are definetly some things I would change - e.g. didn't really think about what I was going to do with the wires. TBH I didn't realise how much stuff I actually had. The wiring behind the tv defo needs some tidying and hiding.

That looks superb mate.

How long is your loft and would you be able to hang PJ screen etc??

Cheers
