Positioning of Receiver and Centre Speaker

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I’d firstly like to say a massive thanks to all that contribute to this forum - I recently purchased my first home cinema system and the information, advice and suggestions from you guys made a huge contribution towards my decision of what to buy - so thanks! Now that I have my system setup, I have a few questions that I hope someone can offer some advice on please…..

Due to tight enclosure space, my centre speaker is currently placed an inch above my receiver using ‘hard rubber discs’ designed for stacking hi-fi components.
a) The receiver gets pretty warm and therefore ‘heats’ up the centre speaker. Will this cause any damage to the speaker?
b) At louder volumes the centre speaker will vibrate and therefore resonating through to the receiver on which it is placed on top of. Will this cause any damage to the receiver?
c) Would ‘isolation cones’ be a better option that the current ‘hard rubber discs’ to separate the receiver/centre speaker? Where I can get these from?

Many thanks in advance!

I'd be more concerned about the receiver overheating, than damaging the speaker. If you can lift the speaker up a couple of inches, that will help.

How about building a "bridge" for the speaker to sit on? Cut a board a couple of inches wider than the receiver, and deep enough to hold the speaker. Screw a piece of board on each end, making an inverted "U". Put this over the receiver, and put the speaker on top.

Alternatively, hang the speaker from the shelf above. I used 4 angle brackets, 2 on each side bolted together to make a "Z" bracket. I bolted these to the underneath of the supports for the top shelf. The speaker sits on these brackets.

Hi there, thanks for the reply.
There's only another 1.5 inches above the speaker in the current setup, hence why I thought of the isolation cones which offer a bit more height and therefore gap between the receiver and speaker. Thanks for your suggestions - I had thought about the inverted 'U', but was a bit concerned that it would enclose the receiver even more....your other suggestion to make a 'Z' bracket sounds good. I'll see if I can find any isolation cones that will make use of all the height available first - think this will offer the most ventilation...
Cheers!
