Is it really OK to mount a Plasma above a working gas fire?

ok i want to mount my brand new pioneer plasma above a working gas fire, is it ok to do this? i emailed pioneer customer support and they tell me they dont recommend it cuz of the convected heat!!! i know a few guys on here have done this and had no problems (well i havent read any bad storys yet) the only other thing is if i change the fire to an electric one, which will cost more money in the long run and not heat the room as much. My mrs really wants a gas fire cuz she feels the cold more than me (alot more). help me someone please!

I read in some mag that some custom installers set a tv is marbel beccause of heat. But it is prob a bit expencive to do.

Try having a look at gas fires with convection flues which can draw the heat out and pump it out of vents.

Whatever way you vent a fire out, heat rises, if only that which comes out from the front of the fire. There are balanced flue and power flue models available (sorry convection flue is the wrong wording Oakmere), but they are only of any use if you don't already have a chimney, which I would suspect everyone would want it on anyway. They still give out heat.

I work for a gas fire manufacturer and we don't recommend it either, but hey, it isn't our investment you are sticking on the wall and overheating. Best case must be that you can reduce it's life, as plasmas get hot at the best of times.
