Can my wall handle a plasma? Help!

Hi,

I've just gone out and bought myself a 14mm drill bit and M8 rawlbolts to mount my new plasma (37PWD7). Now, I admit I know next to nothing about this, so please bear with me... When I bang on the wall, it seems very solid. The house is very old (likely over 100 years). I drilled a small hole in the wall with a 3mm drill to test and found that the drill went in very quickly for almost an inch (like butter) and then I hit some hard stuff that only required a small amount of effort to get through. When I pulled it out there was a light brown/caramel powder on the drill bit. The wall is smooth and obviously has some sort of plaster covering it (seems almost like paper). This is a rented property so I dont want to do too much damage.. just cover the holes in and repaint wall at end...

Am I wasting my time? Should I just pack this project in and go buy a stand? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as looking at my plasma in its box is making me mad!!

Which wall are you going to mount it on.
Is it a chimney breast, is it an exterior wall, ie is it one of
the walls that makes up the outer perimeter of the house.

Hi, thanks for the help. The wall is an interior wall almost a foot wide. There is no chimney in the house and it is a basement flat.

I am assuming that your building is not sandstone............
Drill the holes for the bracket(at least six holes).
Check first to make sure that there are no pipes or cables
in the wall..............
Mount the bracket and swing on it to make sure it is solid.
